Is HID that blue $#!T I'm seeing about the place all the time now? Or is that some cheap bulb replacement?
If it is, I'm surprised it's that expensive, since it's so common around my way, just like those bloody flyscreans over the rear windows!

nope. all the blue lights that you see are just coloured normal bulbs. HID are the sh!t. notice how bright and crystal clear the lexus/bmw/mercedes headlights are? they are HID's. instead of an element glowing, the gas zenon is charged and it glows. have you seen my headlights at night? i cant remember.

oh, have a look at some cruis pics from ages ago. aaron posted the pics from the broadwater carpark when he and kitty were up here. there's a pic with his BA falcon, nate's car and mine lined up with low beams on. you'll see just how amazingly brighter my lights are

I think I know the ones you mean now, I saw a Sccobydoo the other week putting out the most amazing white glow ahead of him. It seemed to be a much fuller discharge too, not something scatty bouncing off the diffuser like mine do.
So Andy I had a look at that site now, and it seems 5300K would be the way to go for me. But what style do I get to achieve the equivelant normal/hi beam that I currently have?

Cheers,
Gav.

well i cant find the post

yeah 5300k is what i have - brighter than the rest. the higher the numbers up from here, the bluer they are and less light output.

you'll need h4 dual beam lights to keep high and low beam, but a real lot of people just get h4 single beam (ie low beam) coz they are plenty bright enough. next night cruise have a look at mine and see if you want to keep the dual beams

One thing I've never worked out is how HID's compare with power ratings. Do they use as much more or less than your standard lights???

the hid's use much less wattage (like 15 i think compared to 50/55/60), but more ampage (20 compared to 15).

They probably use the same power (watts) but in a different way. Many people think the 12v down lights in their house use less power because they run on 12v not 240v, the lamps use about 20X the current to make the same light (IE: 250mA at 240v = 60 watts while 5A at 12v = 60 watts).
They are brighter and if I had a lazy $K I may think about the swap but there is a lot more to consider b4 then.

Does anybody know if the H4 would fit the BA Astina? I'd really like to get some better lights.

oops, yeah what i mentioned above is for the low beams.. high beams for the BA are H1s... but you realy don't need high as it's hardly used, unless u have the money to buy two pairs.
