Has anyone here ever heard of a Mazda 323 1.8 GTX FWD??

Hi guys i really need to know this to clear my mind up.

im recently in a middle of an engine swap and brought a gearbox with LSD in it. i was told that the gearbox had come off a extremely rare version GTX which only came out in japan.

I was told that it is the mazda 323 1.8 GTX Front wheel drive instead of the 4WD version.

is this true?!?!?!? im really confused.

sorry , I've deleted the post before I saw your reply - I realised I was mistaken.

Apparently it was available in FWD.

mentioned briefly here :

'In Holland the GTX was also available as a FWD package, with 4WD turbo models called "Formule 4" '

In Japan, there was apparently a BG Familia Infini, N/A DOHC BP with an LSD equipped FWD gearbox. I am not aware of any BG cars which were factory FWD turbo, however if the above example is accurate I suspect they would be along the same lines as those who have put a turbo motor into a FWD BG - that is use the existing DOHC gearbox with the new turbo motor.

Yeah, but that's the BF GTX.

Can't say i've ever heard of a BG GTX FWD. BGs with FWD LSD boxes yes, but not anything wih a turbo.

And the Eunos 100, which was a NA BG Astina with LSD. There's actually one or two getting around Melbourne.

Hmmm this seems all very confusing. i got a Reply from my seller who sold me the box tell me what you guys think.

Dude,

The only front wheel drive that came out were on non-turbo 1.8 BP engines. They came out factory on some Ford Lasers, Mazda 323, Mazda protege, etc. (FWD - NON,TURBO). They are the exact same design engines except non-turbo and fwd.

However, the LSD gearbox i sold you came out of the limited edition 1.8 GTX fwd that only came out in JAPAN! That is why it is so-so rare.

The most important thing about the FWD LSD gearbox is the drive shaft head to the box which i already DID supply you.
Now all you need are the original front wheel drive, drive shafts which came out of the cars above!

It is actually a not too hard modification my friend. I assumed you knew what to do before you purchase the box.
It is a very common mod in Australia, you can check out fordlaser.com forums to find out more.

regards,
Edwin

I come from NZ and have seen every jap import there is and never saw a BG 1.8 FWD GTX turbo, I used to own a 1991/2 Familia GT,(BG8S) which was the 1.8 FWD non turbo DOHC 16 Valve, It had ABS,LSD, Sunroof, Climate Control, Full Electric... It was a beast of a car, To this day the quickest factory FWD i've driven

phildough you are absolutely corect iv posted up on other forums and have just found out that the gearbox i have now is the BG shape Infini 1.8 N/A FWD with an LSD in the gearbox. They are rare, I think they were only sold in very limited numbers, and they had the clear indicators from the factory.

So many thanks to people who help me work this silly issue out.

The only problem now is how to sort out the problem of the slave cylinder rod not reaching the Fork.

please check out my forum link below to see the pictures of whats happening.
