Gone nowhere in months. Everytime I try to advance it, some outside issue stops me. Crash car, coilover problem etc.

Hmm. Have you looked into whether this will throw off the brake bias? You'd want to make sure this won't actually worsen your stopping distance

I'm puting this back on the table. Most likely after xmas into Feb. There are a few changes to pricing (cheaper) thanks to a good AUD vs USD compared to when I 1st floated this idea. Also the blue caliper is not unavailable. Check post #1 for changes.
Sly-323, the calipers, pads and rotors are all from ebay. Last edited by project.r.racing; 13-12-2011 at 10:38 AM. |

Awesome, I'm super interested to see results. How much did they charge you for the dogbone/adaptor for the caliper?
Cheers! Edit; referred to first post for answer to pricing. though results will be good.

Get this going! Otherwise I will :P
Found pricing on rotors, found the calipers on eBay, who would manufacture the dogbone? Why are the brake lines needed? Also with the bigger rotors, will they fit? Also will we have to change hubs or work with standard? I have a spare hub to work this with and want to do this upgrade asap!

He bought mx5 stuff, which appears to be perfect, but the way they bolt onto the hubs is different, and males for a gigantic rotor size or custom brackets (calipers sit too far away from the center of the hub..

buying a kit specially for another car doesn't mean a custom job won't work. matt is being a little vague with his post.
he brought a MX5 kit and attempted to fit it to his BA. and the offsets were off. last time i have anything to do with a custom brake conversion like this, it was on a starion. 5 stud conversion, rav4 rotors, R33 skyline 4 pot calipers. custom works and fit 99.99% of the time. |

ok yes ryan is correct i did buy the mx5 kit to see it it would fit and no it doesnt. BUT even with a custom dog bone the caliper will sit for far back behind the hub, making the centre of the caliper line up with the forward(outside face) of the hub where the disc is. hence the face the u will need custom discs. the only way to make it work is to have to bolt directly to the hub it self but the caliper doesnt even line up to both the hub bolt holes ether. u can only get one to line up.. there is enought meat on on the hub to drill a new hole but i wouldnt recomend it at all.. that is why i sold my kit and have decided to use late mini cooper discs and 800s calipers with v6 hubs and I4 hub axels..

many options and varients available. but the kit in the 1st posts was designed to be the smallest amount of modding and the lowest cost.
adding bits here and bits there to improve it over the original kit in the first post isn't a problem. any one that does so, just need to be prepared for the cost increases. reason why the kit i proposed was selected was:- all new parts available one part only needed to be manufactured lowest cost available fit 15 inch diameter or larger wheels was designed to meet a large range cars/wheels/cost/wants. nothing stopping people using 316x22 mini rotors etc. but a few more manufactured parts are required. if you don't have large enough diameter wheels (17in), then you'd need to buy bigger wheels. hazarding a guess that this would be about $300 more, and maybe the cost of wheels also. when i first started this, their was one dude one fordlaser that kept asking if larger rotors were available. yes and it would be custom like the original kit. but just couldn't get the idea that custom is custom, and if he wanted custom, he would have to do it himself at his own (increased) costs. matt is prepared for the added costs. |
