Willfully Creating Vehicle Noise
Willfully Creating Vehicle Noise.
Reeving of engine. Sounds like fun doesn't it? But it's apparently illegal and I'm pretty sure it comes under the new 'hooning laws'. They could have come up with a cooler name to begin with. Like 'the devil behind wheels' laws. So, Saturday morning I was on my way to get myself a hard earned breakfast before work, got caught behind some old bag doing 40k/h in a residential area, and I mean fair enough, any other time I wouldn't mind, but I was almost on the clock and needed to begin work. She slows and pulls into her house, and I do the mandatory foot to the floor to reach the speed limit. Side note: My girlfriend is telling me there is no point to telling this story. I'm just throwing a warning to everyone. Well not a block away is a group of police officers investigating another 'crime' where some idiot has torn up the neighborhood park with his car. As I'm coming down the road I'm oblivious to them, except when one comes running onto the road to hail me down. "$240 fine sir, and you can take this kick to balls of 2 points. Oh and nice car, make sure you don't wrap it around any poles. Good day sir." Yes good day indeed... thank you constable f-ckwit.

yeah i've heard of this one before, its almost entirely based on the officers perception of your driving. so dodgy

heres a question for constable f-kwit....
how does one differentiate between 'hooning dangerously' and driving up to the speed limit quickly?.. last time i checked, car engines make a loud noise when accelerating quickly (and legally) up to the speed limit.... BUT we must not forget! this is illegal now this law is a pile of revenue-raising #@$& you were so unlucky |

My engine is stock, and well maintained, but it is a pretty 'grunty' sounding as other BA owners would know, maybe it was the quiet early morning in a residential area that would make it really easy to hear. I imagine he would have heard it and immediately thought that i was hooking it. Cos he just came running from someones home, so he wouldn't have had time to judge what speed I was doing, and he even said "I could hear you coming around the corner"
After seeing a few other mates try and fight the law, I've found its not worth even bothering these days, given my age etc. They won't listen, and these new anti-hooning laws give them the power just to judge what they think is illegal. Payed the fine yesterday, just a pain that I only have 2 points left on my once 'perfect' record...

that sucks... as far as i know. your allowed to accelerate as hard as you like as long as you dont break traction or exceed the limit?

yea not with the new laws... if an officer decides that he doesn't like your style of driving... he can book you under the new hoon laws.

that is stupid. its obviously going to be them targeting younger people. v8's would suffer under this rule if they were going to stick to them.. but they drive them? how is this fair

no one here understands the rules properly and no one has a rule book here...sorry to hear this happened...
and from memory you cant accelerate over a certain rate else its classed as hooning...so suggestions are...dont accelerate really quickly (ie. DONT PUT YOUR FoOT TO THE FLOOR)... also brisbane be warned...cops are getting lots of subarus atm for unmarked cop cars...blending in even more...
