New Tires for my car

I need two new tires for my car before the skidpan day.
Their size is 205/40 17 and need at least 85W's
I am thinking of getting some Kumho KU31's
Whats everyones opinion on them?
And where is the cheapest place for them.
So far Option1 garage is the cheapest @$122 each

Sweet,
Have ordered a pair of KU31's getting them fitted tomorrow arvo.
Then I have to wear them in for the skidpan on Sunday.
Might put the old tires on the front for a little fun...

The rear tires are old and worn, The current fronts are 95% new,
So im going to put the current front tires the rear and the new Kumho's on the front.
Was thinking of having a little fun and wearing out the old rear tyres between now and skidpan day.

Picked up KU31's in exactly the same size for my car last Saturday. They are quite a light (weight-wise) tyre.

Paid $118 each

They wont be going on until after Skid Pan Day. Much fun to be had on the older, worn tyres

The rears are right on legal limit now making them a little slippery when wet hence forth wanting to replace them before skidpan day.

So your saying I should wait a week, have a little fun and replace them after skidpan day.??

Ohh its a tough call.
The wear strips are showing on both.
I think they would almost be bordering on illegal so thats why I want them changed before the day.
But the tires that I have on the front are "Goodrides" so I didn't really expect them to have much in the way of grip.
They have kind of surprised me a bit with their grip levels.

i completely destroyed the 2 front tyres before i had them changed . was a wet day so had some round-a-bout fun. swapped to the KU31's and less tyre spinning fun

they wear in pretty quickly. i found the grip was good after 50km, by 100km would be fine to run at skidpan

Just found out my car has supposed to be 205/40 R17,
I was always told they were the right tires for my car!!
I just found out they are 25 mm different in circumference and that makes them illegal.
Im going to have to buy four tires tomorrow.

Anyone want to buy a pair of
Goodride 215/40/17s
90% tread/<3000km old 3mths use?

wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong!!!

you need a load rating of 85 which you have stated above. no 205/40R17 tyre will come with a 85 load rating. which will then make them illegal.

your car orginally had a rolling diamter of 596mm with 185/65R14 tyres. 215/40R17 tyres would have a rolling diameter of 604mm.

DOT allow a 15mm increase in rolling diameter. 215/40R17 tyres are only 8mm bigger.

(Unless BJs came with 185/60R14s fitted?)

Oh Sigh

Maxxis MA-V1 in 205/40R17 has a load rating of 86W

i found several 205/40 with 86-87 load ratings. maxxis, dunlop, yokohama & toyo had them from memory

phil, i'm running the 215/40 and i gather the others all are too (at least with the KU31's). They are definately legal, who advised you otherwise?

Someone confused the circumference with the diameter at a tyre store I called as there was a 26 mm circumference difference
