BA Radiators
Looks like I have a leak between the core and the tank on the passenger side of my radiator. I tried to squeeze epoxy under the lip on the weekend but it hasn't fixed it
So do I buy a new radiator or can it be fixed off the car ? Ozeparts prices on radiators are : Genuine : A$346.50 Radiator Transmission: Automatic Tank: Plastic Core: Aluminium No. of Row(s): 1 Thickness: 25mm For 1800CC Only Non genuine : A$267.30 Radiator Transmission: Automatic Tank: Plastic Core: Aluminium No. of Row(s): 2 Thickness: 27mm For 1800CC Only minus 10% for member discount. What would "number of rows" mean ? And I wonder if this includes the oil cooler - I can't see it in their pic. Although the brass fitting on the side might be for oil ? Is it worth getting 2nd hand - I figure that'll just break sooner than a new one. Are there other options/prices out there ? I figure I'll replace most of the hoses and the thermostat at the same time while I'm at it. |

Bite the bullet get a new one and do the hoses on the front of the motor (turbo and radiator) as it's prick of a job to pull them off with the radiator in place.
Interestingly your radiator is a crossflow design while the KJ lasers (BA platform based) used coventional vertical flow radiators. A.

*thinks hard* You're right - although it's similar the cap and upper hose port shoudl eb on the other side. Dunno about the cross vs vertical flow thing though?

the pic is from ozeparts - I guess its not always the exact part. Why isn't it a BA radiator, out of interest ?
bourbon that seems alright , its new I presume ? I still don't get if it has the auto trans oil cooler and if so where. Mind you i dont even know if i'd use it. |

can you use your old oil cooler dogo? hmm, that pic might be the non-genuine rad, seeing as it has 2 cores the design would be a little different to genuine

they should be basically the same even if aftermarket...oil coolers are built into the auto rads for the autotrans fluid...manuals dont use it...

I dont have an oil cooler as my car is manual. But it seems like an alright thing to get if it already comes with the radiator. I could attach it to the gearbox or engine oil perhaps.
Is there any advantage or disadvantage of a dual core ? It could just be a matter of more places for it to break will PM you, bourbon |

DOGO, the aftermeaket radiator has 2 cores, one for the radiator and one for the oil cooler, i have already looked at using the auto oil cooler and have found that it would be a complete waste of time...its way to small to cool efficiently, as for the auto oil cooler in that pic on the top of the thread, the auto oil cooler is on the right hand side, those brass fittings...

In the Cosmo I had a 75mm tripple core all aluminium custom radiator. One 10" fan could keep that cool without breaking a sweat.

the oil cooler is not a 'core', its just two pipes that come off the end tanks...
2 cores means exactly that, two cores. |

This is a cross secton of a radiator, the number of cores equals the number of rows of coolant tubes.

Hey I've seen on some sites people reccomending that you paint the radiator black ( you can keep your pink one Cosmo ).
Any opinions on this ? |

I've seen an experiment on painting intercoolers black and the difference was negligible.
BTW it's not pink it's Man Red. lol
