A TEENAGE driver has been banned from the road for speeding - less than an hour after passing his driving test in country Victoria.

The young hoon had barely made it behind the wheel of his 1997 Subaru Impreza wagon when police clocked him at more than 44 km/h above the speed limit on a major freeway.

He was stopped at 4pm on Wednesday on the Hume Freeway at Benalla after doing 154km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Police said the Coburg man had only just got his P-plates 45 minutes earlier at VicRoads in Wangaratta.

When asked why he was travelling at such a high speed, the man told police his passenger, a 20-year-old man from Melbourne, "was feeling unwell" and they were in a rush to get home.

It proved no excuse for dumbfounded officers who handed the driver a $421 on-the-spot fine. His licence will be suspended for six months.

"It is staggering to think that a young driver could be so stupid on the very day they've sat their driver's test," police spokesman Glen Atwell said.

"Travelling at 150 km/h is very dangerous, one lapse in concentration or a sweeping bend could have resulted in a tragedy.

"Police hope that other newly licensed drivers take note of this incident and back off the accelerator."
Haha that would seriously suck, but why would you seriously speed that soon to getting your p's ok 10km/h over fair enough but 44km over?

In theory it's the first time you can legally drive unsupervised. No-one to tell you off and bragging rights with your mates.
I didn't say it was right, just why.

No its usually all P platers that bring attention to themselves....I know..I was 1 of those wanka's...

But the 2 P platers in utes that almost killed me out the front of JBHIFI this arvo cause they wanted to beat me across the zebra crossing...well...they are definitely wanka's..and if I see there car...I will burn it on the side of the road...it was really that close to me...

Also proves that the licensing system is a joke...YET AGAIN!!!!

actually its more like watching the fast & furious movies...

Gotta agree with jon on this one, i too was one of those wanka's,..

i reckon they should make driver training courses compulsary across the nation... Putting the total hours driven on your L's up to 200hrs wont/isnt going to work either.
