Does my turbo look ok?

I've finally put the vf10 core into the vj20 and cracked off the compressor housing so as to rotate it to the correct position later. But there looks to be quite a bit of oil or grease spun around inside. The vf10 has no shaft play and looked to be an excellent turbo, so I'm just wondering if this par for the course on a used turbo.

It could do with a good clean and pull down.

I've seen similar and in both cases it's a different result

one was dmamged compressor and there was fillings in that muck. A bent fin was worn agaisnt the cover. that was S14 stock Hi-flow

On another one it was just crap from the cam cover pushed in from the breather. that was from a turbo off a SAAB.

if it has no play no visible dmamge between any mating parts it mgiht be nothing.

But if you are going to such lengths nothing wrong with a reashen up.

I've seen worse from sotck 300K plus turbo cars. Some had no play others did. At least that one you still have good colour on the comp wheel.

It has absolutely no play in any direction. I've always given it a spin every time I've worked on it to make sure I'm not ruining the fins on either end. Everything looks great and I know I had a bunch of blowby in my low pressure intake pipe that has gotten into my vj20. The catch can is there to stop that now though. I think I'll clean it up and bathe the compressor housing in some vinegar overnight to clean every little crevice.

TurboAustralia @ Darra. Expect a bill of $700+ wherever you go to though.

The turbo cost me $140, no way I'm spending that kind of money on it. If it's rooted, I'll just stick with my current vj20 which is in great condition.
