Same thing has happened to mine, i still havn't got around to finding the problem, being on time is over rated :P
the only clue i have on my one is if i hit a big bump going fast it will flash on so i'm thinking it's a stupid design thing that a wire comes loose in a socket. i'd beta get to work, i got more broken wires in my work gear and i can't find them, Geo's keep breathin down my neck.
it may be a bad connection just before the fuse, just grab a multimeter , go along the wires and check continuity, that will tell you where there is a problem

The clocks in these cars are quite crap. What you have discribed is very common in the uk. I don't know many people with working clocks! i heard that the main reason why they stop working is due to poorly soldered joining inside of the clock itself! Some have taken the clock apart and resoldered some of the joints with success, but it doesn't worry me so i just leave it off! More hassle than its worth. Hope this helps.

My clock went out today. It was the radio fuse blown. So the clock & radio share the same fuse in a 1992.
I removed the factory unit yesterday and must have short something.
It's always a relief to see a blown fuse. Easy fix.

that sounds very likely, as my clocks behaviour is to fade in and out it seems more like a dodgy connection. i really like having a clock in my cars, but i'm getting used to seeing the time once every now and then.

When i've taken my dash out before i've just unscrewed the speedo cable from the gearbox and removed it to get the extra length. Putting the cable back in to the gearbox was pretty easy. I found this to be way easier than getting up from under the dash.
