MX5 SP Turbo rear brakes

Hey all,
Anybody got a contact with some MX5 people that can explain whats
involved in upgrading from standard MX5 rears to the SP Turbo rears.
Reason I ask is the MX5 uses the same rear rotor as a BA 4cyl and
the SP rears are heaps bigger almost the same size as the stock fronts.

Ta

Weren't there only 150 odd MX5 Sp's made? I can't imagine too many people would be selling their rear brakes :P

You can buy DBA rotors and then get a bracket made up. I saw one of
the MX5's at the dyno meet have them but didn't catch up with the guy
to ask how it was done.

I dont know the answer to that the MX5 I saw didn't have changed calipers. I also
dont know if you can get bigger pads will check the bendix catalogue. You are
going from a 250mm rotor to a 276mm rotor so that would add maybe an inch
or two of contact area per revolution of the wheel and will also fill up the gap
under my 18"s a lot better.

Looking at Hoppers Stoppers website again they recomend a 1inch master for
the twin piston calipers so will need to look into that a bit further.

If the SP was so limited then the calipers are probably from the parts bin and common to another Mazda.
Too the books to check brake pad part numbers in the hope you find a simple solution. If not then their will be a different solution.

The rotor is only 10mm thick against the normal 9mm so dont believe the
caliper changes only a bracket for the increased rotor size have been searching
the MX5 forums etc thought this would have been a fairly commonplace mod
the same as adding HSV stuff is to commodores but finding nothing.

The point is I dont think it should cost the earth. I plan to buy some slotted
rotors after I do my front brake upgrade. So instead of buying standard rotors
buy the SP ones and if I can then pick up the bracket that should be all thats
required. I of course want to confirm this first before buying anything am hoping
that this mod would only be about $200 more than just upgrading to standard
sized slotted rotors. Will go and see Mazda and see if I can see the manual.
