Engine RPM?

Hi.
I have a 1997 BA Astina Series 3.

Is it normal that the engine stays at 3000 rpm at 5th gear while cruising on freeway at 100km/h?

The engine noise makes me feel like I need to move up to 6th gear, which I don't have.

Anything I need to do here?

Thanks!

if it makes you feel better,

My MX5 does 3k rpm @ 100kph
My 323 BF does about the same
My wife's PT Cruiser (hurse) does just under 3k @ 100kph & it's a 2.0L

There all 5 Speeds

Some imported autos with 4 speed O/Drive do lower revs. My import Rola did approx 2600rpm @ 100 but these control the torque-convertor electrically.

no need to worry

2JZ Supra @ 100km/h @ 3000 RPM @ 5th gear.

My golf is another story.. 4 speed auto @ 100kmh @ 4000 RPM ... chews fuel.

I almost bought a 1965 Mazda 1000 wagon for my first car
took it for a test drive
and after getting into 4th gear(column shift) and maxing out the revs at 100kph I started looking for a 5th, there wasn't one
Don't think I could live with an engine screaming it's tits off at 6000rpm at 100kph
so I bought a 1972 6cyl(2V head, Toploader gearbox) Goss special TC Cortina

it did 2700rpm/60mph and valve bounced at 5200rpm/105mph
