So the front and rear 5 stud were done, brakes were done, bled and handbrake worked. I removed some surface rust and reprimed and painted then bolted on the front guards and called Ty at Fine Fitment to plan a date for the flaring.
Ty arrived and got straight to work. I once again forgot to take before shots but most of you know what 180 guards look like...well when he was done and the wheels were on it looked like this...

before:

after:

Ty did a great job and is a top bloke to work with and an expert at what he does, id recommend him to anyone...
finefitment.com

After he was gone I made some last minute adjustments and safety checks, bled the calipers 1 more time, made sure everything was tight and put the car on the ground.
I couldnt resist, I tucked up the front parker harness and went for a short drive. I noticed two things, the rear LH backing plate was rubbing on the rotor and the brake pedal was pulsing like crazy so I had to fix these 2 things...

funny thing happened I had to work at night (or wanted to fix the dam thing) so I got out my new chrissy pressy from Mum...

jacked up the front and spun the wheels, it wasnt wheel bearings but the left hand rotor had such a high spot it would stop the rim from spinning freely so I removed them and got them machined and also bent the rear backing plate into place. All fixed.

Once I got all that back together the wheel went back on, I decided I had had enough and bolted the front bar on with all the SS bolts, washers and nuts, gave it a good clean and then bolted up the lip minus the little black seals that used to go around the lip..look alot cleaner without them as well...

I was also able to retain the rear section of the inner wheel arch skin to prevent **** from entering the door section and engine openings..

This was the last pic I have taken, mainly because the weather has been **** and Im tired of working in it so for now, this is my fav...everything finished just no front bar, I recon it looks tough with no bar on anyway...

I have driven it around with my home job WA and ran into 1 problem, castor had to be wound back to stock because the fatter tyres would hit on the front lip on certain inclines while turning...apart from that, the brakes are bedded in and are amazing! the swaybars do there job and I actually turned the dampers down to 2 on the coilovers and the uretane bushes dont squeak...victory...all I need is a proper WA which will be done this week.

Ill grab more pics when the weather clears

That is some great work. In the last few pics I can't even notice the flaring of the guards

AWESOME!

Thanks mate.

I had abit of a downer with the W/A "specialist"...I paid $120 because Im a tech but I dont know much about good W/A (Mazda is very toe and go...lol) so I thought I should...long story short, get the car back, no print out of what the specs were, the steering wheel wasnt straight and IM pretty sure the toe is way off anyway. So Ill be doing my own W/A at work fro free and Ill make sure its done right...

Anyway...few more pics, you see I have takin the Whiteline rear eccentric camber and toe bushes out of the subfame and put them into the upright, then put new non eccentric bushes into the subframe with the OEM eccentric bolts. Now I have twice the adjustment from factory.

This by far the best way to get bushes out and put new ones in.

Buy 1 of these babies...Butane/ Propane Canister $13, reusable nozzle $20

Make the bush look like this by burning it to death (Caution, wear a face mask or dont breath)

And put the new bush in like this...

It was weird though...some OEM bushes have a steel outer casing that needs to be hacksawed out and the camber and radius bushes had those but the toe bushes didnt...made it alot easier to do it on the car.

Thanks for the tip Do you use any lube on the arm to help get the bush in?

Nah no lube just tightened up the bolt a little and used a small screwdriver to bush the side of the bush in and just tightened the bolt up more....have to be very patient.

Cheers mate This is a good tip for when I eventually get my car home & embark on the suspension/brake mods. Thanks again!

So yesterday I finally got stuck In and did my own W/A at work which took me a total of 2.5 hours. It was my first W/A that involved full adjustment and getting used to everything was fun and tiresome. Ive set it at a pretty sensible base and will tweak from here...W/A settings as follows.

Tyre Pressure F: 38psi R: 36psi

Rear
Individual Camber L: -1 degree 7 minutes R: -1 degree 17 minutes
Individual Toe L: +1.0mm R: +0.9mm

Front:
Individual Castor L: +6 degree 48 minutes R: +6 degree 49 minutes
KPI: (Set At Factory) +13 degree 34 minutes on both sides
Individual Camber L: -3 degree 1 minute R: -3 degree 21 minutes
Individual Toe: -1.0mm R: -1.2mm

We also got a new machine in the workshop that measures weight distribution, shock tolerances, braking force and W/A totals:...

I gave the weight distribution a go but havent learnt that part of the machine yet so I think I did it wrong.

I do however know how to used the braking force setting and gave it a go with the new R33 setup....I was impressed

(Measured In Newtons Of Braking Force)
Front Calipers L: 6195N R: 5955N (4% difference)
Rear Calipers L: 1685N R: 1665N (1% difference)

The test was done at 5km/h. The deceleration average was 81% and the deceleration peak was 107% but this is the funny bit...my brake pedal force was only 47%...so Id say theres abit more in them.

I'll have a few goes with this W/A setup and go from there. On the drive home I could already tell the difference because the car did want to slide in the rear but it wasnt terribly volitile. Before the W/A my tyres were being butchered, this could have been due to the +16mm of toe and -3 degrees of camber on the rear tyres due to the last ****ty W/A I paid for...however it did not slide once so there might be a good le-way in there somewhere...just gotta experiment I guess. Doing all of the W/A definetly was a trial but very rewarding at the same time...I learnt alot I normally wouldnt working on Mazda's with only minor toe adjustments.

So after the big upgrade I was having fun until I found my coilovers were hitting the bump stops during high speed cornering. I had a good look around the suspension and found that my linear springs were preloaded. The coilovers were installed before I purchased the car. Funny because the night before I had red that linear springs should not be preloaded, just tight enough to not float on the collars.

I adjusted the preload out of the springs but then I found the car was actually lower by about .5" so after all that trouble I needed to do the rears as well. I waited until I worked a Saturday shift to do the rears and what do you know, they are preloaded as well. So, adjusted them and the car sat varely square with the front being about .5" higher then thew rear and the shell sitting about 1" off the tyres. This changed the handling alot, not only was the car not understeering but the rear didnt seem to slide.

I also did a corner weight just after to see how much the car weighs:

No driver
Full tank of fuel (45L)
All spare tyre and tools
Rear Stripped
Battery in LHR corner

FL 330kg FR 340kg
RL 300kg RR 267kg

Total: 1237kg

Also, Ive just found the best way to clean up the engine bay wiring, relocate the main fuse box, relocate the washer bottle and open up space for a decent oil cooler core. Im sick and tired of fixing oil leaks and making my oil cooler system simpler is defiantly on the to do list.

I have a dream!...to get that bloody fusebox and wiring tidied up so working on the engine can be easier...so I had a plan, with the help from Sillbeer (Brendan) over here in Oz, I going to get rid of the OEM washer bottle and make way for a new oil cooler setup, relocate the large fusebox and put in an A/M washer unit to keep it all legal.

Since I promised my fiancee I wouldn't spend money on the car until we moved out of my Inlaws and had the wedding getting this past her was hard, I promised her I wouldnt spend over $50 on everything but I couldnt do the oil cooler setup until later and not knowing what my current setup is like on a hot track in summer I wasnt sure I should. I really just want it simpler with less fittings and a better location for the core. She decided to let me do this little project because she knew if I went cold turkey, I'd buy nerf guns or annoy her to no end.

So after a few emails to Sillbeer, I purchased an A/M washer bottle with motor and all the wiring and tubing...

$15 trade...

Im currently making up a bracket for it and will rig it up shortly...currently making pom pom balls for the wedding...Bahahahaha

So its been quite a few months since my last update, since then me and my fiance have moved out of her parents house and got a nice big 4 bedrooms house for the 2 of us complete with a new home for my car...

This 1 is the 1st day it was in a fully enclosed garage since I bought her back in 2008...happy days (sorry about the quality)

Then after we were settled in I spent the next day and a half clay baring and polishing until this happened...

AND THEN.....

I found my wiring loom was rubbing on my tyres not because the car sits too low but because they are 245/ 40 and the loom wasnt secured so I tucked it up out of the way.

AND THEN....

After a few more months my fiance did a family group buy and bought me these puppies to get rid of the sunshine state crap....

AND THEN...I got a new awesome job...

AND THEN....The 180 just hit 120k on the odometer so I did a major service and a good once over also found my front swaybar d bush brackets were working themselves loose after the last track day

AND THEN.....well I get married next month so once that is all said and done, I'll have heaps of money.....too buy a house

Really keen just to thrash it out on the tarmac now so we'll see what happens.

^^^ Thanks mate.

Wow, havent been on here for ages, still see some old names about...

So heres a run down of my life..

I got married and got a dog, hes a Malamute x beagle and he's a lil devil.

I quit the automotive trade and now work as a casual in a computer warehouse while attending uni full time studying Games Design. My goal is to ace the degree and be a concept artist.

Since Ive been studying money has gotten tight so Ive only done the bare minimum to the 180, every now and then a birthday or Christmas pressy will be for the car...

As usual I have a few plans that dont require funds. Im currently in the process of removing the 180 battery tray in the engine bay and welding a new piece in, relocating my fuse box, relocating my washer bottle and redesigning my oil cooler. The car itself has been running without a hitch...

I also lowered it but decided 2 days later that I was sick of scraping and the handling was shot to **** so I raised her back up. The suspension arms are now parallel to the ground and shes on rails again.

I got this from Option 1 for my coolant temp sensor, its actually from GKTECH but it is so much cleaner then cutting up your hoses.

I also just ordered a front diffuser, made from SS.

And Ive replaced my drive belts, the 180 still had the originals.

For the moment I just need to pay the rego, buy tyres and do a major service. Having no money isnt fun. Its worth it though.

Whoa. Blast from the past Theres still a few of us around but we've mostly moved onto other cars. I ended up getting a GT

If you see a black/orange baby ninja/rider with black/orange helmet at KG thats me I work there.

The 180's looking really nice, what are future plans once funs permit? Also, love the rota torques. They're probably my second choice to getting GTC's

Hi Dav!

Rota Torques??? They are CR Kais (17 x 9 +17, Look a few pages back) Dont be offending me...Bahaha

I havent quite got to KG yet, not until next semester, ill look out for you mate.

Once funds permit, tyres and a whole lot more track time. Been craving to thrash the crap out of it...Ive got a SR20 block that Ive cleaned up and have big plans for it but that way into the future..I need to redo a few things to make the setup simpler ie oil cooler relocation to the side. Genrally just a clean up..

So you got a GT, wow, i like those things...link to pics?

Man, such a perfectly modded 180.
I remember the first time I saw this car, perfectly stock type x, was clean as!
Then once I found out that it got sold... I was like nooo it's going to get hacked! Lol

But all I can say is, I'm damn glad that you bought it.
Looking sweet man!

Bahahah, yeah if I wanted to hack it up I would have bought a cheap craper. TBH Im glad I saved it, its clean and Im going to keep it that way, even the authorities leave me alone.

Got these from Greg at GKTECH, got a Nissan, go to his site gktech.com

After some cleaning with emery tape and some anti seize...

Snug fit...
