Engine mount welded nut broken...drill wheel well?

Hey all (sorry if you have already read this)

On my drivers side engine mount it appears as though the weld on the nut has broken - the bolt now just spins and you can lift it about 10mm.

I don't see any other way but to drill a hole in the wheel well to get a spanner at the nut.

BA astina 1.8 dohc.

Any other ideas?

Just in case someone searches for this down the track, I fixed the problem by:

Increasing the small access hole in the wheel well which is right near the brake line. I did this with a mounted stone drill bit. Increased the size just enough to fit a 17mm open ended wrench in so that I could remove the cross threaded welded nut and replace with nyloc M10 nut.

the fix is fine overall.
Seen it before 90% of the time similar ones due to some merchanic using a rattle gun on it. instead of hand use it. Lazy bastards

over tightening isn't the primary cause of the failure... rust was
I used a rattle gun on many cars at the same places, all was fine

Agreed and not starting nuts and bolts by hand first is the main cause

Yep, looks like someone had cross threaded the nut hence broken tac welds.
