Drove to Hobart to pick up 4 week old phantom rims with new tyres for only $600!
Fitted but forgot to take spacers out so was driving dangerously for a few hours before I figure it out. |

Got pulled over and fined for having LED strips (pictured), as they may 'blind' someone. I'll pay the fine, I have no issue with that - but seriously, my 1W LEDs will blind someone?

lol i would contest that.. as they are not fog lights, they are clearly driving lights and the ammount of light given from them cannot blind another driver..

Hmmm, well he wrote on the ticket "Light not covered under 5.5 or guideline". I can't find any section 5.5 of the road use management act that relates to lights so no idea what it references to, unless I'm reading it wrong.

Sounds like a load of bull. Or should I says "needs clarification".
I assume he's referring to ADR ( Australian Design Rule ) and probably ( obviously ..? ) one of the ones referring to lights See: http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...dr_online.aspx Perhaps: Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 13/00 - Installation of Lighting and Light Signalling Devices on other than L-Group Vehicles) 2005 http://www.comlaw.gov.au/comlaw/mana...8?OpenDocument Section 5.5 says: 5.5. In the absence of specific instructions lamps constituting a pair shall: 5.5.1. be fitted to the vehicle symmetrically in relation to the median longitudinal plane (this estimate to be based on the exterior geometrical form of the lamp and not on the edge of its illuminating surface referred to in paragraph 2.9.); 5.5.2 be symmetrical to one another in relation to the median longitudinal plane, this requirement is not valid with regard to the interior structure of the lamp; 5.5.3 satisfy the same colorimetric requirements and have substantially identical photometric characteristics. This shall not apply to a matched pair of Class F3 front fog lamps. 5.5.4 have substantially identical photometric characteristics. I can't see any rule regarding them being covered. |

dogo thats the section 5.5 of the appendix. the coppa might have been on about the actual paragraph 5.5 in the main part of the same document
Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 13/00 - Installation of Lighting and Light Signalling Devices on other than L-Group Vehicles) 2005 paragraph 5 EXEMPTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURES paragraph 5.5 (pg5) reads For front position lamps, manufacturers may choose not to meet the requirements of paragraph 6.9.1 of Appendix A, in which case they must meet the requirements in clause 8.4 of this standard. Appendix A refers to several UNECE regulations for lighting components. Read references to these UNECE regulations as references to ADRs as set out in the table below. Where there is no referenced ADR in the table for lighting or marking components, the UNECE regulation referenced in Appendix A shall apply and paragraph 6.9 of appendix A is found on pg71 of the same document which i wont be reproducing here, its several pages but here is the link i think he is trying to get at it being to low.. as thats the only thing i can see from the whole paragraph (minimum height being 350mm but thats just damn sad.. i say take it to the cop shop and get them to explain it.. id try to go after paragraph 7.3 DRIVING LAMPS as thats what these are and they are fine under all paragraphs 7.3.. Excuse my ignorance, but if my car didn't meet ADR, wouldn't that make it unroadworthy thus I would have been issued a defect?

pretty sure if it didnt meet either ADR or QT regulations it would be defective..
but that cop is clearly huffing something (or trying to be smart..) to try and pass a ticket. just take it back to them and ask for clarification. if u have a laptop, take it to the cop shop with you, so if they say its from ADR blah blah blah just open it right infront of them on a PDF and ask them to point it out. be carefull however cus if they find something else in your car they can re-issue a ticket |

Maybe I should just write to the address indicated on the ticket explaining my concerns, quoting some ADR and request further clarification. As the cop took a picture of the lights (I thought it was weird - common practice now??), they should should be able to assist.
It was weird though, he asked me if they were fog lights, I said no, then as he issued the ticket he said they shouldn't be on in clear weather as they may blind people. He even stated that they only light up about 2-3ft infront of the car. Little bit odd.
