Intake Cleaning
So I've been having problems with some rough acceleration of late, especially before the car warms up, but also randomly (first and second gear primarily). I also noticed I was getting a fair bit of smoke at high revs (maybe 5000+) So my main guesses were:
- Dirty MAF sensor - Gunk build up in throttle body/EGR So I went and bought: - Liqui-Moly Petrol Engine Intake Decarb - CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner - Cheapest toothbrushes I could find Warmed up the engine, then killed it and: Pulled the MAF and Intake hose off, sprayed the MAF and let it dry. The throttle body looked pretty dirty, especially around the butterfly so I'm thinking it wasn't quite closing properly. So I gave it a spray and scrub with the toothbrush. Buttload of carbon came off it. Added some more spray, left it for a few minutes before starting the car up and keeping the revs around 2000. Enter smoke like you wouldn't believe. Stopped the car and repeated the process again, spray and brush, spray it up and started her up. Kept it running from here on in, giving it a few sprays every few seconds. No more smoke and running much smoother revving much more cleanly. So I put everything back together (intake pipe split to **** so it's half duct tape until I source another one). Anyone know where I can get one cheaply? Had a quick look on ebay and it looks like it's around $150, not sure if this is good or not? I seriously can't believe the difference. I don't think it's ever run this well. Acceleration is smooth and there is much more of it. Couldn't be happier. If your car is of a certain age and not running quite as well as it was this is definitely worth a go, best $50 I've spent on the car by far.

You should get some seafoam too mate. Some in the fuel, some in the oil [just before a change] and a bunch into the intake via the brake booster hose. Then watch the smoke show that comes out of the exhaust.

Had a look at a few videos of it online. Nowhere I've seen seems to stock it though.

Yeah, used it a couple of days ago to clear out all the oil from a blown turbo, and definitely made a difference.
