Pop Quiz: Queensland Road Rules

Hey guys,

Got an email recently that had a link to a new initiative from Transport and Main Roads (TMR). Basically it is a quick (10 question) quiz on how well you know the current set of road rules. Bear in mind some rules may have changed since people first did their test (am I showing my age a little here?? )

Anyways, I thought I would post it up here and challenge all Queensland members to give it a go and then post up your results. Also if you have any questions why you got some wrong, post them and we can discuss. There are videos and explanations for all the questions too.

Click the linky here:

8/10 - Failed the bike rider and the mutliple sign at intersection questions.

I wonder how my 50yo+ would fail the merge and roundabout questions.

8/10 i failed the one about the giveway/stop sign (thought the stop sign has to STOP didnt know they negate each other, i thought that if you just come up to a giveway sign and the person on your right just came up to a stop sign, you can drive through as they are required to stop for 3 seconds) and the turning across a painted island (thought you couldn't at all)
oh well

Interesting. Didn't know about the car needing to give way to the pedestrian.

WOW, somehow I passed all 10 questions and I sat my licence nearly 20 years ago in NZ and 10 years ago in Aus.

But I also have my HR licence and I have only just learnt the hard way that a large 8M+ vehicle (eg a bus) can come out of its lane by 3 meters when turning a corner (bus was in right lane and I was in left lane and we were turning right) and smash into me after I had straightened up coming out of the corner

I was technically overtaking the bus just from being along side the bus (even though it should be been in the left of the two lanes when turning right)

But its my only accident in 400,000+km/19 years of driving where I am at fault?

Moral of this story :

If there is something big beside you at the lights don't enter the intersection till its cleared it because if it you get hit you are in the wrong.

Also NEVER rely on anti lock brakes -but thats another story!

9/10.

Apparently you can't mow down pedestrians in a slip lane

It would have helped if the pram ramps were drawn on
