Another Exhaust Post ...

Yes another exhause post but i didnt really want to hijack some1 else's post - SO

like i mentioned earlier i have a 97 V6 astina

i was suggested a 2.25 or a 2.5 exhaust

however i live in brisbane and i have no idea

1. Who to go to for a good job and good price

2. what type of exhaust i should use ie, brand, design etc

brisbane, rob bliss (geebung) is one of the cheapest but pretty good. pitty he's such an arrogant prick. on the southside there's CES (custom exhaust systems). they are fantastic, but they cost alot.

in terms of 2.25 or 2.5, what mods do you have/have planned?

but whatever you do, get stainless steel and mandel bent.

in terms of mods im only looking at an exhaust with MAYBE extractors ... my prob is i know nothing about exhausts -- atm i want an exhaust which has a nice sound isnt ridiculously expensive, stainless steel.

what is madel bent?

will that suit the underbelly of my car?

in regards to what further mods -- im pretty much leaving it at that until i get bored again then maybe i mite do things to muscle up the car in terms of looks. But atm im trying to keep it "if it aint broken, dont fix it" kind of thing. So when the time comes when i do have to repair it i can replace it with something nice.

so atm im basically hearing that i should go for a 2.25" exhaust.

You wouldn't need much more that 2.25" unless your mods go over the top, it's a good starting mod. It'll sound nice, give you a few extra kw and you will be rewarded more with all future mods.
Stainless won't rust and gives a nice raspy note, you'll be happy.
An exhaust can be press bent (cheapest) or mandrel bent. A mandrel bend maintains the size of the pipe making it less restrictive. An exhaust is only as big as its smallest part.

yep 2.25" is the way to go without internal mods (like me)

but definately get extractors. on stock cars that's where the power is lost because of the cast iron crap. also you'll take out 1/2 of the weight of the exhaust (mine was more than 1/2)

just make sure you get an in-line resonator otherwise you'll sound like a 2-stroke lawn mower

ok i went down to Midas (i know dont yell) just to get a quote and see wut he though ...

now he suggested a 2.25" exhaust, resonator, the mod will start from the catback-- will be get a square cut chrome dual exhaust for a nice looking touch ...

im not going to get extractors JUST yet -- budget

so exhaust will be like this:

[ ] [ ]

just in case no1 could picture it

so wuts ur thoughts -- they are quoting me $475 ($125 for the tip)

wuts price like - think if they do this it will be good - anywhere else for cheaper etc ?

lukey muffler as well -- that good/bad ?

also the guy there said i should give the car a go without extractors first -- he is either stupid for not going for the sale (to a kid who knows nothing), or he's being honest and suggesting not to go for it just yet .... hrmmm

Either way they are complementary mods, either one will give more power but the two together will give a result greater than the sum of each individual mod. The zorst will change the sound of the car more if that is one of your goals.

Is yours a Turbo muffler though Dan?? I had a Lukey muffler on my exhaust system initally but it was hella loud.. I have a sneaking suspicion though that it wasn't a true 1 in - 2 out system.. more like the other way around..
If anyone would like the explanation that I was given I will go into further detail.

I now have a Walker 1 in - 1 out system and it's much much better.

Just put a 2.25" cat back on the 929 total cost $220 without the $30 tip, it isn't too loud but drones a little.
Next I'll do headers then 2.25" cat and a resonator.
