tyres

ok guys, I'm after 4 new tyres for my beast. I've looked at the following please give me your opinion or review if u happen to have the same tyre thanks in advance
YOKOHAMA AVS ES100
FALKEN 451

the size is: 205/50/r16
by the way how much you guys paid for tyres??? i don't want to spend big dollars on them. 140-160 mark will do me fine.

well ive always always liked yokies over falkens....

falkens have always done me really badly especially in the wet...

my current yokies stick like **** to a blanket... even giving it some under boost in the wet stays on pretty well...

i'd have to agree with wiredone on his comment about falkies (205/40s) in the wet. i then went to goodyear f1s. liked those . this was on my old car.

on stock yokohamas on my sp20 right now though.

Ive given my car hell in wet on Faulkens and been happy with the response, as the tread gets lower they do get looser but so do most tyres... seem to be the best bang for your buck. Guess it depends on how fat your wallet is.

To jump in:

Falkens do have a grey market import problem. And thanks to Falken selling the same model numebrs everywhere it's very hard to pick the grey ones. They're usually the really megacheap deals. Typically these are either built with rubber compound not suited to the Aussie environment, OR worse still factory seconds/thirds.

Most people that say Falkens were sh!thouse bought one that wasn't suited to their car (like every other tyre manufacturer) or they got some mega cheap deal from "Bodgey Tyres".

My experience has been that choosing the right model Falken will get you exceptional bang for the buck.

My Yoko experience has been far less positive. As for Goodyear... well no one ever has a good year.

A.

A few of us here on the forums also have the Dunlop Performance FM-901's.. That would be;

Me [MrPayner]
Dan [Rupewrecht]
Brad [Bradinho]
and possibly one or 2 others..

Although slightly noisy they do offer good performance and actually won the Motor Tyre of the Year award for 2003.. I've got no complaints [other than noise]...

There was a topic about this a little while ago too..

The 18"s only come in GRB's whereas I think the one's you are looking at
might be the Ziex range. I have used both and find them good for the money.
I dont rotate my tyres and just change fronts every year and get 3 front to
one rear so am only paying $500 a year for tyres and have fresh stuff where
it needs it more often.

Regards

Mal

Yeah, I had 509's and then the 539's on my rolla sx... fantastic tyre... really grippy, esp in the wet...but I had to change them over at 22k, didn't last long at all... very soft compound.

When i got my tyres couple of months ago, the tyre dude said the GRB was an old tread pattern which had been replaced by the Ziex line. dunno how accurate that is... but there u go

At last i got new tyres, 4 x Falken451s (205x50x16) $660 from AAA tyres in guildford. I got offered cheaper deal but couldn't bother to drive. Have to say I'm pretty happy with its performance comparing to Potenzas I used previously, I don't think i can get any other performance tyre for what i paid for. Overall it's a smoother ride and effortless steering, in the wet it's ok not as bad as noted in some reviews. If you live in sydney, recommended place for tyres are as follow:

Mathew tyres
AAA tyres and lastly
Tempe tyres

After endless hours of getting quotes and reading reviews, the top three places in sydney are as listed. by the way guys i noticed 2 bars on the rear axial (my ride is a astina V6 hardtop) could that be sway bars??? how can i post a photo here ??? I also got front left ball bearing and CV joint replaced for 240 including labour is that expensive??? well thanks for all the replies i got .....
