Tyre Impressions

Anyone got any feedback stories on tyres in 17" range?

When responding try to give indications as to regular driving style, etc so I (and others) can make as informed a decision as possible when purchasing new boots!

Cheers,

Scot

the first thing id be looking at is your tyre plaquard for your vehicles load rating index. it should be around the 84 mark. thankfully some manufacturers are now making 205/40's in an 84 load rating however this was not always the case. Silverstone are one such manufacturer. ive only had mine on for 6 or so months with no dramas but maybe sik mik is better to explain their wear/performance

cheers mike

Ive got nothing bad to say about Faulken tyres. They seem to handle well and wear ok for the price tag. My driving is mostly traffic and I like to go into a corner hard and late.

Falkens are a brand. In 17's can get their Ziex or GRB style I have used both
I found the Ziex better wearing with no real loss in handling. I drive a turbo,
I have to be the first to 60km/hr, I drove from Sutho to Chatswood today and
used the brakes 10 times, 2 in the driveway (Changed pads last night so trying
to use them sparingly) but usually brake late, real late and hard. I get 1 year
around 20k from a set on the front dont rotate tyres and get about 2.5 fronts
to a rear tyre change.

Regards

Mal

i'm using Dunlop FM901s in 205/40/17

i just got the 44th last pair in the country LOL

cant reccommend them high enough. only downside is they're a noisy tire - i can hear them over my 3" exhaust! but the grip levels are worth it

Falkens:
ZE-326 (Ziex) - Cheap and long lasting but dont hang on as well as the others and bit noisey - non directional
FK-451 (GRB) - Slightly more expensive, excellent grip in wet and dry. great for high performance but if your driving style is agressive they wear real quick (I went through these every 6months on the front) - directional
ST-115 (Azeni) - Awesome tyres, Quiet, excellent grip in wet and dry. they wear fairly well too - directional

Silverstone: Cheap rubber with not much grip but excellent durability - directional

Brigdestone: Dont bother, too expensive in that size

Yokohoma: Dont know much in this size but the I had them on my 14" rims and they gripped great but wore out real quick. AVS Sports are meant to be good

I found the Ziex dont hang on as well as the GRB's but my wallet is smaller than my driving style so I went with them. The Ziex arent that great in the wet when trying to accelerate either.

Shame the Azenis dont come in low profile in 18"s. Even in
17"s they are a 45 profile.
