Mazda3 SP20 SkyActiv

Following its international unveiling earlier this year, Mazda Australia has today shown off its new Mazda3 SP20 SkyActiv, featuring the company's new 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine.

The SkyActiv-G engine utilises multi-hole injectors and a higher compression ratio of 12.0:1. Power has increased from 108kW to 113kW at 6000rpm and torque has climbed from 182Nm to 194Nm at 4100rpm.

In Australia, the new engine will be paired with the SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission. Local fuel consumption figures have not been confirmed, but US-market figures show 8.4 l/100km in the city and 5.8 l/100km in highway driving.

In five-speed auto form, the Mazda3's current MZR 2.0 litre petrol engine returns 11.3 and 6.3 l/100km respectively.

The new Mazda3 SP20 SkyActiv will also be the first Mazda model in Australia to feature i-stop, the company’s new idling stop system.

The SkyActiv Mazda3 models also gain some aerodynamic improvements that include larger underbody covers and an optimised front bumper design.

Styling updates for the 2012 Mazda3 also include a redesigned front grille, foglight bezels and headlights.

The new Mazda3 range will be available in Mazda showrooms later this year. Pricing and details will be confirmed closer to launch.

Does it come without all the crud is a better question. Like no auto, no istop.

If not then ill just stick with my BJ until it dies.

I like it. 6 speed auto doesn't bother me. I don't like the sound of iStop though.

I'll wait until I can drive it before making my decision. I like the concept of the new auto, it sounds to be more like an automated manual than a traditional auto and the istop??? well I'll wait to experience it before deciding.

The whole idea of this model is everything possible to save fuel.

If that means switching off at the lights to save fuel so be it, its just being wasted anyway.

It looks like the BJ Astina will be the last Mazda that can be modified somewhat easily with out the ECU cracking a fit.

Price is right, $27,990 for 2.0L 6SP auto, with better headunit, sideskirts and alloy wheels. Drinking 6.1L/100km

My 2007 3 was $27,990 for 2.0L 4SP auto with no extras. Drinking 7.5L/100km.

Weird thing to say considering the ECU issues you are having.

Was having with a faulty ECU!!!

To be honest we had a quick look at the JDM ECU when we swapped the motor but because we didn't have the JDM wiring diagram we left it till later so we didn't destroy the ECU.

The BJ is the last of the easier cars to do transplants ,if you use any BK motor or any car that runs CAN you have to still use all components to make it run correctly . There are people who have made up systems to run these motors but you have to hide some parts under your dash ( like the cluster , abs module ,power steer module and imoboliser parts )

And they are incorrect. Japan version has 14:1 compression ratio. Australia only got 12:1 because ir had to be suitable for 91 ron.
