What kind of Astina is mine?

due to all the newbies asking (not that that's a bad thing...)

Astinas are commonly referred to as BG , or BA or BJ on this site.

It helps to know which model you're asking about as they're all different. Australian releases too.

forgive me if im wriong but im sure theres a 1.8 EFI 323 BG sedan

Nate 28-04-2005 10:12 AM

and the twin cam bg was called the SP :p

and probably a good thing to note that the hardtop is a sedan ... kinda ... some people might think there was a convertable model

pr1mo 28-04-2005 10:19 AM

also if we could have the first bit of the identifying vin number displayed next to each of those models it would be cool for identification purposes!

Rupewrecht 28-04-2005 10:55 AM

you give me the VINs, and i'll add them :)

Nate 28-04-2005 10:59 AM

Jmobg10p*********

Rupewrecht 28-04-2005 11:04 AM

SehnKhan 28-04-2005 11:45 AM

There is a 1.8 SOHC BP engine for the BG Sedans. Like the KF/KH lasers. Just not very common to see.

Ian 12-05-2005 09:50 PM

So what would a 92 astina SP be?

twilightprotege 12-05-2005 10:05 PM

Bg - Bg10p2

Ian 12-05-2005 10:07 PM

oh :| I didnt see the - may 1994 part

woofy 13-05-2005 03:29 PM

The Protege sports edition was 2002 not 2001 (ours was built in May 2002, I think and the BJIIJ48 proteges/astina SP20's came out in June I think), I remember seeing the first SP20 Astinas early 2002. Also BJIIJ48's were still being made all through 2003, I think they were stopped sometime Nov/Dec 2003. 3's didn't come out here until late Feb 2004.

CRA23 13-05-2005 04:32 PM

i thought the v6 ba were F1's not P1's??

skippy 13-05-2005 04:50 PM

I think am a F1 or F2 = 1st half 96 V6 hradtop

Cosmo Dude 13-05-2005 07:51 PM

We are the Astina and 323 site so I'll ask Mr Peabody to set the wayback machine to '77 to get the FA4 codes.

GLC's rock

twilightprotege 13-05-2005 09:03 PM

sp20 astina came out in march/april 01 - in yellow only. in may 01 it came out in the rest of the colours.

made or sold? thats an important difference here

and whats the code for the BJs? a la BA11P1 etc

twilightprotege 17-05-2005 08:03 PM

the SE was definately 01.

chicaboo 17-05-2005 09:43 PM

The first BJ I ever sat in was the SE20 back in 2002, I thought it had the most comfy seats out. Prolly even more comfy than the SP20 seats. Woofy has said the seats are different, so maybe the have some fancy schmancy Jspec technology...?

twilightprotege 17-05-2005 09:53 PM

well waddia know. the SE was 2002 : http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclesea...=323&year=2002 (apr onwards)

and as stated, the sp20 astina started very early 01 : http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclesea...=323&year=2001

twilightprotege 17-05-2005 09:54 PM

rupe, fyi redbook has the specific model numbers.

ie sp20 astina = BJ10S2

woofy 18-05-2005 09:58 AM

Ah and all of you doubted me.....told ya that the SE was 2002...ours was BUILT early May, rego'd late May, the SP20 Protege came out a few months later, I suspect after the SE's sold so fast they decided to make them a permenent thing. Two gripes though, the limited Starry blue on the SE should have stayed limited, and the same for the yellow in the Astina's. I'd be pretty annoyed to be told its limited only to have it come out on everything a month later.

Dunno the silver bits are a different material and the inner bits/door lining bits seem to be a better quality than my friends Sp20,, I'd never realised they were different until she got hers. I think the bolstering is the same, but not sure.

Rupewrecht 18-05-2005 11:25 AM

OK, it'll all updated now i think!

Zooming Bravo 18-05-2005 11:23 PM

at the end of 99 they brought out the run of 40th anniversary models for 121,323 & 626.

The Astina 1.8 (only) anniversary model came in silver or red with the interior exactly the same as the SP20 climate control as well.

We bought one and have been very happy with it but its time to step aside for the arrival of the 23....

Rupewrecht 19-05-2005 12:27 PM

i thought about listing all the special models/shades, but since mazda doesnt list them and redbook doesn't actually say when each special edition etc...but the basic specs don't change

Rupewrecht 25-05-2005 06:52 PM

also, on the topic of the BJs - at my old job i did the mazda australia site.

the subsite for the SP20 was designed in november 2000, and the facelift 323 subsite in jan 2001! Quite a bit of forward planning there.

shaggy 1800 13-06-2005 05:02 PM

hey guys this may have been covered in this tread but i carn't see it any where. Is there such a thing as a BG Astina 1.6 with the SP seats in them from factory? Cheers And were the SP's the only ones to come out with the double exhaust tips?? (i know they are realy Kookl).
Thanks again

Rupewrecht 27-06-2005 11:03 AM

changed the code for the BA protege, as it seems to be referred to as different things under Mazda

89sp1.8 02-07-2005 06:33 PM

hey i know this might be a stupid question, but i was curios to know if theres any preformance/engine differs between the 89 bg sp and the 94 bg sp?same kw n bhp?

bourbon 30-10-2005 05:17 PM

yeah there is BG Astina 1.6 SP...and also there are 1.8 DOHC non SP so the BGs are missin a few there mate...not tryin to be picky or nuffin

Rupewrecht 31-10-2005 10:45 AM

no, there's not. not in australia!

if you can show some proof, i'll happily change it. :)

Drunknmonkeyau 31-10-2005 11:19 AM

hey guys
I'm just wondering what the diffrances between a normal 95 BA and the shades one are? is it just a cahnge in the interior or is there more then that?

Cheers :D

Rupewrecht 31-10-2005 11:23 AM

i think the shades ones got mags and aircon, and possibly a spoiler as well. Cosmo will know :p

Cosmo Dude 31-10-2005 12:32 PM

Shades is Mazdas runout special. They add some bits like Mags, A/C (although it was standard on the Astina), some fancy SHADES decals and sometimes fog lights. It's a better deal on a 121, Protege or base model 626.
Imagine a Astina V6 shades. It wouldn't be any different LOL
