BJ gearbox oil

Hi guys,
Am I alright using GL-5 gearbox oil instead of GL-4 in a BJ SP20? I don't have the manual and I have no idea what the specs are haha! I know I need 75W-90, I just want to make sure that GL-5 won't damage anything!

Should be fine. Theres a thread on top protege that has all the details :)

Few guys in the states had 1-2 problems with GL5 but they also had high kms on them so whether the GL5 caused it or not is up in the air.

As long as the specs for the oil include a milatary spec, then is is all good as it has additives to protect brass.

Great! What am I looking for to designate a military spec? Its just good old nulon stuff!

project.r.racing 25-05-2013 10:18 AM

when you look at the product details, they will have specifications that they adhere to.

Penrite Pro Gear 75-90 Full Syn for example has:-

Key Specifications:
•API GL-5/GL-6/MT-1
•MIL-L-PRF-2105E
•Ford M2C-200C, BTR 5M-50 & more

The MIL being the spec you wanna see on the specs. I think it is 'D' and 'E' on the end you'd wanna see.

No military spec! :(

Specs are listed as;
- Api gl-5
- Audi/VW spec no G50
- Holden VN V6/V8
- Sae J2360
- BTR 5M-50
- T5 Manual Gearbox
- Api MT-1
- GMH HN 1181, 2013
- Mack GO-J plus

Its listed as the right Gearbox oil for the car on the nulon website, but it mustn't be by the sounds of it!

You'd think that they'd put that on the bottle haha! Cheers for your help mate.

specs change all the time with new formulas etc. info on bottles and labels dont change as quick as the info in the net does.
