K&N, POD vs PANEL Filter
 

Im currently running a pod filter, love the sound and its ability to give an easy path to redline, but hate the location of where it is, hot engine air etc. To be honest im to lasy to run CAI or move the pod elsewhere.

But anyway, I was thinking of getting a panel filter so its sucking in that clean cool air from the front stock CAI route. Has anyone got one? Hows it go, does it make the same grunty noise as the pod or what?

I replaced the pod I had on my car with a panel and the noise went away. But, if you do up a CAI you can create further induction noise.

I'd be more concerned with getting good airflow to your filter then worrying about noise. If you get both, then bonus.

you could always make a panel (aka heat shield) that helps the pod and sucks in the air only from where the cai piping goes

I went the panel filter over the pod, for a few reasons

non-defectable

didn't require any mods to get it to fit

I have only just got a new panel filter for my Laser after the other one being crushed in an accident

this time I have a Cold Air Intake setup

so there should be more of difference

*due to wet weather here I have been unable to check yet lol

There are various test on the web which show that their is minimal flow difference between a pod or panel filter.

I went panel due to the reasons Laser outlined.

NB you might notice in the picture that there is a brake booster on the wrong side.... damn americans....

^ see above, but the price is a bit better than that now with the dollar getting better. it's certainly not a cheap mod, but it's good.

the stock car should put out 98whp. with the intake i got 103.5whp and snert (kurt) got 104.2whp with it, so it definately adds power.

I put the panel filter in my BA, and did the CAI.

All up the mod cost $110, including K&N filter.

Is that big chrome thing your intake???? OMG!

And does the $400 includes the pod filter and freight to Australia and the importation taxes etc? Probably not a bad deal considering it looks factory, but still too rich for me. Besides, too much polishing, LOL!


From my own personal point of view, the noise factor once the res box was removed, the CAI put in and the panel filter put in was increased, and sounded very nice. It should sound better again when I get the exhaust done.

Oh, the other thing to do if you want "noise" factor, take out your sound sheild thing under the bonnet. Mine is out purely by accident, and it does increase the sound.

400 is for everything....and yep, that piping is the intake

when i get my exhaust hp coated, i'm going to get the intake coated as well to help reduce intake air temps

Yeah i fitted a pod filter,and made a custom airbox which it sits in to to sheild it from the heat and run a 4inch cool air feed from the front bar,work really well :wink:
