how do i find TDC ???
hey guys i finally got the new engine in my astina but my dad wants me to find out how to find top dead center on the engine so we can set it before we fire it up? the engine is out of a ford laser but its the same as the 1.8L bp that was in it before! any help would be great :)

Theres timing marks on the crank pulley. Or should be.
|
yeah but where do you put them? we dont know how to set it is what im trying to say
|
notch in pulley lines up with 0 timing mark or the last mark as the engine turns over with both valves closed an no 1 cylinder(nearest to the alternator end of motor.)
|
Dead easy way is to pull out the plug, drop a long screw driver in the hole (gently! don't scratch the piston) and turn the engine over by hand. once the screwdriver has risen up and starts to fall check the crank pulley for the marks, they should be lined up.

You dont need to find TDC if you are replacing the timing belt.
Mazda made it really easy to align a new timing belt on these engines... http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...imingmarks.jpg Googling said topic brings up 100s of how to's online. As only as you align everything correctly, and folling the install instructions, then everything should be where it needs to be to fire it up. |

Can only go on assumptions since there was little info given in the first post.
