2.0l V6 replacement engine?

Hi all!

Well today i'm posting on behalf of my father!

He has recently come across a problem/knocking within his V6 hatch's motor.
The knocking seems to come around in the upper of the rev range. It isnt too loud but extremely noticable. Doesnt sound like a bottom end bearing as it sounds higher in the engine. A mechanic has diagnosed the noise as a gugem pin, although this is still not 100% clarified yet.

If this was to be the issue, the mechanic has suggested a replacement motor. Quoted $990 for a decent replacement motor (not fitted).

So upon that i wanted to ask peoples opionions on what it could be, price ranges on 2.0 V6 motors or whether it would be just as easy to swap out the motor for the 2.5?

Thankyou!

I'd look at a KL-DE conversion, a modest power increase but more importantly a torque increase. Change over the overdrive ratio at the same time for better cruising.
The Astina inlet manifold will bolt straight up to a KL-DE but you may want to swap over the injectors.
