depending on which engine your looking at about 500 or so.
this service usually includes timing, alternator and powersteering belts. also your water pump might be on the way out. along with plugs, filters, oil etc etc.. i did my 100km service about a month ago and it cost me 590 including wheel alignment

Hi Shoemeister

How hard is it to do yourself? I've got a 1.8l BA. I've not worked on an east west engine before. Done timing belts on Subaru (nice front on access) and do you know if any special/obsolete tools are required? Any known dramas or is it a good job best left for the spanner man?

if that was aimed at me i would have no idea. my car is a v6 so its a bit of a bitch to service so i just leave it to the spanners. the 1.8 is dooable i think but ive never done it myself

yeah v6 timing belts are a b!tch.

i had to hoist the engine up out of the mounts about 3-4 inches to get to the crank pulley

I4 should be easier

Speaking of Timing belts, what is the replcement interval?
My wifes car now has 173,000kms on it. I replaced the belt at 100k.

Is 100k from a Timing Belt easily achievable? Or are the intervals less?

BTW, 1.8l BA

When changing timing belts, I normally replace the: cam and crank seals, water pump, accessory belts, and tensioner. Might as well have them changed whilst the belt is off, saves you having to come back later.
