SP20 Body differences compared to the 1.8
Hey dudes,
Just wondering, are there major differences in the shape of the SP20 body? example; Front bar - are the head lights and grill different shapes to the 1.8? or would it fit off with the old and in with the new? I'm a noob... I know... but bare with me. Cheers. Pete

yea bumper should fit... its the pre-facelift models that need the headlight and hood changed. Heaps of people have done the conversion, i've read about it.
Check out the American forums.. they have more info on it because those bumpers are more common over there. just run a search on their forums. google should help |

it would look good, buy some spot lights to some mesh to fill in the grill. and it would look sweet...
i was thinking about cutting the bumper to fit my pre-facelift 323... but it would be too hard and expensive |

front bumper and front wheel arch plastic guards are the only replacement part on the sp20.
the side skirts, rear lip and wing are all simple bolt on items. |

you will also need an SP20 grille as they are different to the 1.8l's. Oh and something random, SP20 astina also have the antenna at the rear of the car, not on the pillar...

Oh should also mention that headlights are different aswell, just in design, they have the low & high beams seperately, whereas the 1.8L's are all in one. Maybe get some blacked out ones like chicaboo use to have on his SP18, just no pics unfortunately. I made up a thread about 18mths ago, maybe do a search for black headlights... Edit: Here is the Link... Cheers Marc

I've got SP20:
bumper foglights/brackets upper grill lower grill guard liners (plastic liners inside the wheel arch) SP20 stickers The sideskirts and rear lip are best to be just eurethaned on, and not drilled/bolted. Gav. |

Thanks for your replies guys.
Just spotted a sp20 bumper on ebay for cheap... So tempting, so I'd have to replace side front quarter panels too? The SP20 wheel arches flair more than the 1.8, don't they? Or am I on drugs?

Yeah, as Marc said, you're on drugs. The only difference in the SP20 guards is a hole for mounting the sideskirts (as Bourbon has already pointed out). And since the best way to mount the sideskirt is just to glue them on with eurethane, you won't be missing that particular hole. But since the bumper sits lower and further away, the guard liners, do not sit properly and leave a 2" gap here and there.

I reckon buy all Gav's stuff (as its already in your car colour), get Kqlasr's skirts and try and find an SP20 rear lip ( I saw one on ebay a couple weeks ago, I think it may be 32C's off this forum) and your set!
Then sit back and laugh at how much it would cost to get it all brand new from mazda, you'll be pleasantly shocked... Cheers Marc
