ive been driving other cars a bit like the mx5 so i dont know
it dosent seem to be getting any worse
its not blowin smoke either

Have you serviced the car lately, ie changed plugs, points and dizzy cap if it has them, oil, air filter, transmisson oil, checked the timing?
All these sorts of things can make your car lose power.

mine used to do that also. i found an exhaust leak at the O2 sensor, fixed that and now drive more conservatively with an occasional spurt - is that the right word? - and it seems to go quite nicely from take off now. i also run 95 octane but the car isnt tuned for it so i think that is just my head playing tricks
