Not promising on fat mat :| Looks like we need a butyl product to withstand head and stay adhesive in vertical or gravity resistsed positions (roof). And I dont think we can use the asphalt version in the firewall because its not heat protected/will melt glue... Hmm... RAAMmat is doing well... Now that it has the BXT II version. Also a good point was that we could add sound deadener paint to the door frames before applying RAAMmat, to stop it peeling. Neat info. Granted the dynamat in my front doors have never peeled or had issues. I would even consider double layering the doors...people reckon the double mass is much more effective than one layer of any particular product. Got anywhere cheap we can get RAAMmat?

I have read that the problem with some of the cheaper eBay sound deadeners is that they don't stick very well in the heat, and here in Queensland I could see that becoming a problem.
I have seen some cheaper stuff that you have to glue yourself which may be a cheaper solution? |

Also read its a pita to install non adhesive stuff. The problem is that everone only buys one product and it almost always works, giving it a thumbs up, but it may be totally pathetic compared to another product also given a good review... Everyone's product is always the best if you ask them, which is annoying me about this stuff. As clearly there are differences in quality and results... Gah

we could try laying down the layer of paint-on deadener...apparently its heavily heat resistant and will assist the soundmat's adhesive from melting...
So do we give this carbuilder guy the benefit of the doubt? $222 to fit a whole car with butyl sound deadening is pretty good...

Jaycars' stuff looks better IMO
I have also seen a spray on underbody sound deadener on eBay, im pretty sure I got sucked into buying it when I bought my car new along with the tints, rust proofing etc. I dont know how good it is or if it even works. Last edited by phildough; 07-11-2011 at 10:44 AM. |

shot off an email to Rick, the guy who's email is on the "contact us" section of the RAAMaudio website. Shall see how we go.
Am i right in assuming that all four of us are looking at around 70sq ft each? kudos going out to rick... http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/aud...o-raammat.html got a response back..already :| He's not too shabby. We'd have to order from his colleague Mike...because his location is closer to Aus. Therefore shipping is cheaper. the email I received: James, You have done well to chose RAAMmat BXT II, it really is a superb product, I just do all I can to keep the cost low for my fellow enthusiats Please contact Mike Tay, he is the distributor in Singapore and areas closer to him than we are to help you save on shipping! canopus88@yahoo.com I also recommend taking a look at Ensolite on the website, it will nearly double the results of mat products alone, cost effective, etc...Mike does not stock it so it would come from me but low in weight so shipping is not to bad. Thanks, have a great new week Rick Hi Rick, We're a group from www.astinagt.com, and there is about 4 or so of us, looking to sound deaden our cars properly and fully. We all live in the south-east of brisbane, QLD, Australia. Your website says that shipping cannot be carried out to our location. We like the RAAMmat BXT II product because of excellent reviews. We need something thats high quality, that will resist heat and not bow/melt/peel in our hot QLD conditions. But it's incredibly hard to source this product in Australia, at least at a good price. Do you have any information or suggestions for us, in relation to finding a discounted price for a bulk order (between 200-300sq ft) of BXT II? Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers, James

sooooooooooo...Got emails back (yesterday) from both Mike and Rick.
$1000USD for 280sq ft of BXT II shipped (via seamail) to our area. That's $125 inc shipping for about 35 sq ft of BXT II. Which is pretty darn cheap. Jaycar's soundmatting would be about $166 for 35ish sq ft. What do you guys think about peel and stick ensolite to go over the top? I'm figuring that if im going all out for this install anyway, I might as well "go all out". Each person is recommended about 40sq ft per 36sq ft of BXT II according to rick. He quoted: $219.48 for 112 sq foot - $1.96 per sq ft $260.08 for 140 sq foot - $1.86 per sq ft $305.50 for 168 sq foot - $1.82 per sq ft (I worked these numbers out myself btw, he just gave the big quote... haha so if i screwed up the smaller price per single ft, that's not his fault :P) This includes USPS shipping to our location. anyway, I think the point is that Ensolite would be pretty cheap. $305 would split between 2-3 people based on whether or not you're laying down more, as much, or less ensolite than your raammat BXT II. Looking at his install guide, and that install from the astina page from that professional install guy... It could be wise to just smack it down everywhere that we put BXT II....

sound proofing? you will find most people only ever do the doors on their cars and not much else, also it's not often done a fairly new car due to the fact that everything is new and tight lol.

Im only looking at doing the doors and boot as I want to try and save some weight and I had spray on under-body sound deadener put on the car when it was new.
Also how did this jump from around $200 per car to $500. |
