Pod Filter

I was looking at some Pod filters at a exhaust garage.. of whom i have connections that said to go to them... I was told that for Pod Filters to be installed LEGALLY, (by in no way able to be defected) they had to be incased.. He said for this a stainless steel mould needs to be made, and installed with the pod filter itself (but yet still looking kool).. costing about $500.. i was suprised to hear that its infact illegal to have a pod filter without a casing... Is this so???

And does that seem like a good price for a K&N filter fully installed.... just to get 2 maybe 3% increase in preformance?

true on all statements... but $500 sounds a bit rich to me.
try 1-2kw extra performance.

not really expensive because to do a full case legal for pod is worth that amount the time the labour etc tigging it up - hell I would want $200 for it.

but here is the funny bit it still maynot be totally legal- theoretically but if a officer did see it they would let it go.

1 or 2Kws would just be the restriction from the intake of the airbox.

if you used a panel and ran a decent CAI you would match if not perform better then with the pod

Just replaced my filter with a K&N panel filter (cost me $68 from rocket industries) and ..wow!!!..what a difference it made. I had sluggish & flat acceleration with bit of jerk before and now all those problems have disappeared. It’s very smooth and responses very quickly. You can instantly feel the difference. I’m sure my fuel consumption will improve too. I have to wait till I fill up my tank next time. Yep…go with a panel filter…its perfectly legal and no mods are needed and probably not much of difference in performance compared to a pod !!

"3A Racing" brand is the best on the market currently. Costs $29.99 from most retailers. Direct bolt on to I4/V6 AFM.

Panels are more expensive, but will gain you a couple of KW (when combined with a CAI) versus an exposed pod. There's a few threads around here with these results

Cold Air Intake

Its a modification where you pipe cold incoming air from the front of the car, up to the air intake.

Cold air has a higher density ( so there's more to burn ) and the air pressure increases the amount of air going into the combustion chambers.

There's lots of info and guides on here , do a seach

Yes, you will certainly notice an increase in power if you replace the stock panel with one that allows air to pass through easier , and create a CAI by running a pipe up from the front of the car, replacing the standard air pipe.

You don't need a pod filter. They increase the chance of sucking in hot air from the engine bay - which is bad for performance.
