if it's only to prevent scratching these ok. but I don't believe theres much difference when learning to drive (unless it's on the touge) with different rim sizes. I Learnt on the hardest car I've even driven to date (old hardtop) with super short pick-up and heavy clutch and it was frustrating.

195/50R15s are too small for a ba (diameter and load rating). you need 195/55R15s.

i doubt the 15mm difference in widewall will make much of an impact.

original tyres when new would've been 185/65R14. if something smaller was fitted when you purchased it, so be it.

i'd go with what is on the tyre placard and the load rating on the tyre placard.

all 195/50R15s are 82 mostly, (sometime 83) load rating. but totally illegal in all states of australia.

195/55R15 are 84, (minimum for I4 BA).
185/65R14 are 86.

AE86s are also 200kg lighter than BAs, hence the slightly higher load requirement.
