BJ Foglight Install Help
G'day guys,
I picked up a set of fog light, harness and switch off Dan and was planning to install them myself. So I was having a look around the car trying to plan it out and I have some sort of idea on how to get the lights in there. The part where I am stuck is where the harness plugs into the car. Has anyone got an instruction sheet or pointers on how I should go about the install? Thanks Dennis |

Hi Dennis,
If you have a genuine switch and loom - simply remove the panel on the side of the dashboard that faces the door. There you will have access to a slot for the switch and a partial harness to plug in to. Next you need to remove the bumper [whether you like it or not! ], then you can find the other end of the partial harness on the top of the right wheel well [it faces away from you]. Next, use the plastic lugs on the bumper to secure the harness you got, and screw the fog-lights down. The hard thing will be connecting the harness while the bumper is off the car [it's fiddly]. I recommend that you do this on grass so as not to scratch your bumper. Gav. |

Does anyone know if the BJII-J48 Bumper is slightly different to the BJII?
As the screw holes at the top of the fog lights don't match up to the bumper, the holes on the fog lights are spaced further apart. |

No difference between those 2 bumpers, and the fog-lights are the same between the BJI and BJII as well. Can you take a picture of the fog-lights for us?

They should just go straight on. I don't think they are a precision moulded part, as I seem to remember my RHS foggy cracking on one of the lower supports.
Dennis, if it's out by miles, just bolt it down with the 2/3 of bolts that work. If it misses by a 2 or 3mm, that sounds normal from what I remember with mine. Gav. |

That seems quite common - there's a lot of sets of that style fog that are broken on the outside lower support.

and they are all off by a fair bit, the closest is the top lhs bolt, but for that to work i need a longer fastener. the gap it about 10mm between the foglight mount and the hole on the bumper. |

foglights will probably fit early to late with slight mods to the bar to extend mounting holes...

I had genuine brand new AUDM Mazda fog-lights on my car, and they were labelled as fitting BJI and BJII, 98-02. The instructions showed both cars, and the fog-lights were even the same in the illustrations. If it helps, my fog-lights were only held on by 3 brackets - 2 on the bottom? and one on the top? We've looked at pics from the jp auctions, and haven't been able to see any difference in auction photos either. The only thing that could throw it all out, is if they had a different BJ bumper option in Japan, as they did in North America and Europe...

Its good to know that i'm not entirely incompetent and that the lights were not supposed to fit.
So Dan ... what are the chances of you finding a set of the light with the 3 mounting brackets at the top? |
