No have only seen it done with the Eunos 30x's.
Search some of the american pages where it seems
a common swap.

Hi,

I havnt done it, but I definitely want to. I havnt looked into it tooo much yet. From what I understand, the 2.5 v6 engine is very much like the stock 2l v6 engine, and so Im hoping that the swap would be 'relatively' easy into a v6 astina.

Call ichiban out at morebank or jap imports for a price on
the 2.5 which is the MX6 motor isn't it. A basic remove
replace of a motor will cost about $500 if you don't need
other parts or if you want to do it yourself about $100
hire for a engine hoist and a weekend of labour by you.
I would recomend buying the matching ECU and engine
mounts when you buy the motor as the 2.5 would have
larger injectors. Best thing is to look at the US sites and
see if you can work out a parts list.

My friend who works for ford said that the 2.5litre is too big to fit in the astina engine bay, the 2.5 MX6 motor is the same as the 2.5 Probe and the laser is the same as the astina so Im guessing he would be right[/colorost_uid0]

tony,
how are you going with your conversion?
i am de-turbocharging my mazda at the moment.

in regarding to the size of the engines for the astina, it all depending how much time and money you want to spend.
my mechanic has a spare rb26 and was very interested in squeezing that thing into my tiny mazda engine bay.[/colorost_uid0]

I wouldn't have thought there was much diff between a
Eunos 30x engine bay and a Astina bay and they have
made them fit into the Eunos.
Needs a lot of research by the sounds of it.[/colorost_uid1]

Eric,
You keep on throwing up suggestions about using North/South
engines which would require a tunnel to be made into your
Astina. Is you guy able to do this sort of work. If so I
would be interested in know what sort of ballpark we are
talking about to enlarge the front tunnel to fit a 4WD
transmission.

Oh the conversion is next year.
First a new exaust. Then a rear skirt(pakfeifer) Spoiler (carmate) and front bumber(carmate).

I was wondering....in the mx-3 fits a 2.5l so that almost the same as a astina ?![/colorost_uid0]

in bolting a 4wd transmission to my BP in a E/W direction.

I put a Japanese KLZE 2.5L V6 into my Mazda MX-3. Easy as pie. All stock mounts/tranny/crossmembers/etc. You'll most likely have to use your stock exhaust manifolds, and intake manifold [might be able to fit one from a japanese 2.5L millenia]. 200hp and 175 ft/lbs is a whole lot of fun [/colorost_uid0]

The KLZE/KLDE is externally identical to the KFZE 2.0L ya'll have. No size difference. 0mm. nada. zip. The only difference is the bore and stroke, which is inside. That's the beauty of it...nobody knows its a 2.5L except you [/colorost_uid0]

The block and head etc is the same …
But the exhaust and inlet manifold is quite different…
I don’t know if the KLO3 or KLZE inlet manifold will clear the hood on a lantis or astina/323 .
The KLO3 ~ 170 Hp and has lower compression so it is better suited to turbo and Nitro applications..
But if you are after just N/A performance you cant go past the KLZE @ ~ 200 Hp..
But I would not assume ether would fit I would have a good measure of the clearance at the top of the motor B4 you rip out your old motor..[/colorost_uid0]

Now that's what I love about the Astinas. Eveybody thinks they're either stock standard family cars, or "riced" up PoS's. Then you drop the clutch, hear that lovely whine and leave em in your dust - mmmm, turbo. Gonna have to wait till I'm 25 and have lots more money [/colorost_uid0]
