Use the 3m pin striping tape, it's like 2mm wide and will give you an excellent edge. I just used $8 paint from bunnings and lasted over a year until I smashed it but was still perfect. Use a highbuild primer.

My whole front bar has been coated with plastidipp. Can't vouch for how it stands up to the elements/bugs/stonechips but it has had the odd tool and cat land on it with no adverse affects
