BG LCD Dash - Fitted

With the many questions that were asked in the For Sale section about these clusters, i thought i may as well post this up.

The dash IS a direct bolt in. However, there is a "DOOR" light in the dash, this will not work. Otherwise all the main functions are as per normal. As for anyone worried about weight reduction in their car, forget this mod!! hehehe, they are a considerable amount heavier compared to the factory dial setup, due to the amount of extra circuitry inside. But otherwise, looks great i think.

Ofcourse, me being me though, couldn't keep it factory. The above pic shows your normal "daylight" illuminatioin. At night when you turn your lights on, the dash would then light up the standard green colour thats in all the BG dash's...but me, I couldnt keep it like that!!

Here's my modded night time illiumination. Oh, just so you know, the dash has a dimmer override button on it too, meaning that you can have the normal daylight lighting, even when you have your headlights turned on.

The other cool thing about this dash that took me by surprise is that the speed readout changes colour when you go over 100km/h. It changes to orange (day or night). This can get a little bit annoying if the speed limit is 100 and your hovering just above or below and the colour is constantly changing. so I just set the cruise to a little bit higher and all is sweet.

Here's a pic of the change in colour that I got with my mobile phone. Note, this pic was taken before I fixed the hot spots caused by the LED's.

Cheers mate, I got mine through Ross (GTXWGN). He managed to score only 2 on his last trip to NZ and he sells them for $250. As far as I'm aware, they both sold.

Nice one Rob.

I've seen a few for my Mx-6 alsmot the same very comon in Canada and Us well more common then here or Japan.

Funy thing I always remember people claiming oh ther are all sensitive is something goes wrong etc.

I've seen less problems on the late 80's or mid 80's Jap displays then the new Euro or Jap car makers current setups. Especially thses new So called German cars built in Well all over the place. Think VW golfs along them lines not common but more common then the Jap stuff.

The door light is weird.

oh does it have ABS section as well? or until area

the bouncy speedo needle is cause of plastic gears wearing out

a bouncey needle 9 times out of 10 in our cars is caused by a faulty speedo cable. Basically the lube inside the cable starts to gum up.

But, with the LCD display, the readout isn't exactly what you'd call fast responce...so the effect of a sticky cable wouldn't be as great. Although if the needle was bouncing really bad, then yes, the numbers displayed will cycle and not hold a constant speed.

that's very true., it also leads to a borken speedo calbe. Usually if it's two peice the shorter bit.

seemed to hit both my mazd'as at 110,000km's but recnelty got bouncing speedo again Can't decide to put on new ones for just wait for it.

Oh but you can relube them. With what depends. I used graphite grease and 2 bar of compressed air on lazer cable and same thing on a old WB ute.
both cars never came back - both probelry scrap now.

If you can pull the whole thing out a number of different lubes out there.

Fair play to you if you're getting to 180.
