ya ive checked out the hiboost chargers already.
the price they got on there is crazy man. $4200us? $5000 aus with that kind of money i could buy my own parts and build it myself with better parts. i was told it is a very good kit but the price is way out there. im sure alot of people agree. maybe if they dropped it by 1k they would get alot more buyers.... i would buy it. lol

yeah, but its all there and new - thats why the price is high... there are a couple of guys that do turbo charger fitments for a living - take the hiboost ideas to them

The big expense is rods, pistons and engine management. Otherwise, I don't see the problem in everything else just doing the job you can afford them to do.

Cut corners on serious power upgrades like this and you'll be left with an expensive paperweight.
1k is laughable ! |

10k yeah is alot of money..but u do things too cheap..and u will end up over period of time spending same amount repairing neways

no such thing as a safe low boost on a motor not designed to take boost trust me i blew a big hole through the block and took of the starter at the same time as the rod went through and according to the dyno at the time it was only running 4 pound boost
now as for being to much at 10grand lets break it down custom turbo manifold $500 intercooler + piping $1000 forge pistons rated at 42psi + billet rods $2500 rings and bearings $500 crank grind lightened and full balance including pistons ,rods and flywheel $800 brand new turbo t28 b/b $2000 second hand 500 then rebuild 650 =1150 so i bought new mandrel bent system all the way through with new turbo cat , sports muffler $800 computer installed and dyno tuned $1500 fuel pump $240 injectors $240 blow off valve $400 now believe me there are hoses clamps brackets and other things to be added so do your sums just a reminder thoughs kits from the us are ok on there cars as they run lower compression ratio then the oz versions do so a low so called safe boost there is not safe here then on top of the safe set boost what if it spikes you could go from putting 4psi safe boost then a spike would put you anything the turbo will let go through it , it is even possible with the waste gate to spike high boost when spooled up quck

ya i know wot u mean bro.
better to do it properly then to do a **** job then end up putting more money into it to fix it anyways. but like i said, b4 i do anything there will be alot of research and learning. as for the prices you have just put up there.... some of the things u have on there is way more then what i have researched on. (maybe you bought everything retail?) anyways i already know i will be starting off with 5k to boost. after that i will slowly build up the motor aswell. its not like im gonna boost it then leave it. besides whats all this talk about the 1.6 being best to boost?? no1 has said nuthing about my 1.6 yet. lol

of the 3 engines, the 1.6 is the most boost friendly
and please, you just want a low boost? until you've had it for a month and get bored!!!

I've got stock boost on the Laser, and although it's nippy at 6-8psi (feels like it could easily run a mid 15 these days), it stills feels like it could do with another 30-40kW ATW before it became too much of a handfull. So I'm calling it quits when I get to 130kW ATW, pretty much...
Anyhow, what I am saying is, there's not really any safe low-boost on a non-prepped engine. I still reckon the Hi-Boost kit is the go, and save up another 6 months or a year and get forged pistons and rods, then you will have everything you need and could run 15psi all day long and have a great time... EDIT: I'm doing things slow before I crank up the boost on my car with the new turbo. I've replaced all the ignition components, and that alone has given me what feels like 20kW ATW compared to the aged condition the car came in. I've got all the gear for fuel and spark to make sure it won't run lean. So you take it slow and you won't run into probs. Gav. Last edited by chicaboo; 13-06-2007 at 11:23 PM. |
