I took the Ghia down to the local Escort/Cortina guy who said that it was just too f$#@ed to repair and would be better to use an RS2000 shell that he had :|
I've now put a deposit on the RS2000 and will transfer the mechanicals later.

Problem is that I wanted a car shorter than 4001mm which the Ghia was but the RS2000 isn't.

(In the broadest Austrailian accent)
Say la vee

because the RS2000 has the different nosecone right?

i remember reading that Colin Bond when he used to rally the MK2 escorts saying that the team didnt like the RS2000 front as it was actually heavier than the standard escort nose.

would it be hard to transfer it across - assuming that this is the length problem, and not the addition of extra doors

Yeah,
It's the nose that makes it longer. Is also changes the front guards, the bonnet, the guards and the rad support panel. It would also provide space for an FMIC in a turbo application.
I've shown the Astina BP motor to this mechanic and an MX5 transplant has peaked his interest

Worked in an Astina refference :P
