Rupewrecht's Substitute

Withdrawal.

Trawling eBay and Gumtree

Seeing that there's an Astina for sale for $450

Offering $300 for it.

...and picking it up this afternoon.

The good:
2.0 V6 manual
towbar
very clean inside.
new radiator
cruise control

The bad.
273XXX kms
Blows a very small amount of smoke under load.
Front end is a bit clunky
Tint is fogged, peeling and faded
A couple of dents
Clearcoat is gone from upper panels.
A few bits of broken trim
driver seat base is broken

The LOL
Original CVs and clutch
it actually drives very well. Did the trip back from Ballarat (1.5hrs) with no issues at all.
Much torquier than the FP 1.8 4cyl that took me up there.

Plans?
See what it'll need for a RWC.
Drop a Mazdaspeed seat in it quicksmart.

If too much needed, then use bits off it for the one trapped in Workshop Hell™. It's worth at least what i paid in parts.

Is it wrong that i bought a new set of Tein springs for it (the 3rd last set in Japan of discontinued stock) about a week ago? LOL

I think it's a cry for help, we should organize an intervention for this poor fellow.

Jokes dude, we will see it rockin' a set of Works or mazdaspeed rims soon enough...before the real mods start!!!

Yes!
Put the tien in the shed and I'll make you a deal on the MS springs and shocks on my donor H/T. Make a deal and I'll throw in the zorst.
There is enough here to add ABS to the trapped one.

Would love to see the variant of cruise control fitted.

I can't comment anymore as I said I wouldn't miss my old one but it's making me think about it

I'll take some pics, but there's a triangular box sitting on the intake with a looped cable

interesting - Rupe I want to the stalk if fitted or buttons.

I had a very factory type looking one fitted. But it would of been easy being auto.

So, RWC done.

- RHS foglight cracked + not working (i have a spare)
- Number plate lights not working (easy)
- RH tail light cracked (spares, again)
- Drives seat loose (lol, base is broken, hello Mazdaspeed)
- Remove window tint (ugh)
- Both exterior mirrors loose (spares)
- All 4 tyres worn (have you seen my garage?)
- Top front strut mounts cracked (and they're expensive little ****ers, too - but it's a common issue)
- Knock in front end - shocks/struts? (probably, though i suspect balljoints and bushes)

Luckily i know someone with a good parts car that i'll be getting which will have most things i need...right, Cosmo?

So the only other things are new engine (though the lightly-smoky current one is not an issue, apparently!?!!) and clutch.

Sounds like a good candidate for a 2.5 KL.

Interesting thing regarding the engine, too - the 2.5L can use the (current) 2.0L intake/injectors/ECU to run it fine, AND i'll get better low/midrange response due to using the 2.0 intake vs the 2.5.

And i know it needs new gearbox bushes, too.
And maybe a new RHS headlight as i suspect it's broken inside.
And a new combo switch as the indicators are a little sloppy.
