Hi guys, I'm new a got 1 or 2 Q's!

Hey all,
I picked up a 1.8 BA P2 hatch the other day, it's stock as, just over 100K on the clock with timing belt just done.
I'm going to drop all fluids out this weekend and change filters etc.
Wanted to know what people recommend for different oils.
I use Penrite HPR desiel 15 in my 100 series and am happy with it so was thinking of using Penrite HPR 10 which is 10W-50.
Any opinions on this oil and other recommendations please.
Cheers.

Welcome to AGT

I use Penrite HPR15 in my BA.

I'd recommend putting one of the Engine Flush-type bottles into your oil before you change it, just to give the engine a good clean if you don't know the history. This also helps clean out the cam HLAs which can get noisy in the 1.8s (and moreso if you use too thin an oil).

thanks guys, this forum has some top info on it. Bought the BA as a run around, but ya' all have made me want to mod it
Was wondering about the filter cause the last owner said it was stock but it looks like a K&N panel to me (red material filter). Do these K&N filters need re-oiling after cleaning like the ones I used to run on my Blade and RGV?
Cheers.

The standard filter are either bright red or yellow paper ones, from memory (but it's been waaaay too many years since i had a stock filter!). If it's a dark pink with fine mesh, then it's a reusable K&N - and yep, will need reoiling once cleaned.

I'm using Penrite 0-40. Absolutely brilliant oil! Of course you must expect the motor to go through a bit more due to the thin viscosity but, if you have a motor in good cond', then thinner the better . Just beware, as Rupe has said, it can make engine noisy, not suitable for older motors really but, mine has done 174000klicks! Not a noise! Trial & error. I always used Castrol 10-40 in my V6 24 valve engine & it too wasn't noisy. Just try out thinest oil you can get away with. If the 0 was too noisy, I would have then gone 5w; 10w, see what I mean?
