sluggish shifting

My BA has had this problem on and off for a while , When the car gets hot the gearshift becomes sluggish - it doesnt bounce back to center as easily as it used to and doesn't move around as nice as normal. Doesnt seem to click into the gear positions cleanly.

After the car is cool it seems to go back to normal. Normal driving at standard temp is ok but if I sit in traffic ( or on a hot day ) the heat soak seems to cause it.

Any ideas ?
I have a short shifter and a G series box.

I'm not sure whether the problem is at the box or with the shifter or its bushings.

It's the lack of standard exhaust heat shield below the gearstick, i think. If i recall correctly there is one on the standard exhaust anyway - i might be mistaken.
I sometimes have the same issue but it has to be very hot outside temp to do it.

That could be it. I wonder if some exhaust wrap would be a solution.

But I always worry about rust with exhaust wrap

its prob the bushings or the stick between the bushings that heats up and expands and makes a tigher fit.. perhaps go and get some of that heat wrap and make a nice bandage on the exhaust around the stick area?

edit
LOL i JUST typed this and yours popped up (i had this opened for a while sorry
