[color=#000000ost_uid7]Well I ventured out today and ripped my dash out to replace the stupid green dash backlights.
I bought these Japanese replacement bulbs from Newgel in Canberra, blue ones... Put them in no problem, they fit perfectly. Only problem is.......ITS STILL GREEN! The pointers are now white instead of green, but the numbers are still green I took the bulbs out again to make sure they were actually blue, connected them up with a 4.5V battery back, and they are definately blue... Any ideas? I'm told sik_astina has changed his dash colour...[/colorost_uid7] |

[color=#0000FFost_uid2]Yeah, I put blue sleeves over my original lights in the dash. They had that blue tinge but were leaning more to the green.
I think the actual panel with the numbers has a light green backing to it too, so that can be whats making your blue look green straight away. I also bought red ones, they looked pretty good, and made more of an impact. What i have noticed with the sleeves, after a while, the heat gets to them and they start to fade. For the moment i've got my blue ones back in, kinda giving the dash a more aqua-greenish look now. I'm thinking of painting the actual globes so they can't fade. Just an idea... -Mick[/colorost_uid2]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]don't paint the globes, as the heat from them being on all the time will stain the surrounding plastic! i had red bulbs in my numperplate frame (that i painted with clear red tamiya model paint) and the white plastic around the globes got stained pink. so bad idea...
apart from redoing the dials, there is no way to get rid of the greenish tinge to the dials, as the dial backing is green.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid7]may seem a little bit too far fetched but....
if i recall, yellow and green make blue...therefore if the bulbs were quite a strong yellow, would the dials end up looking blue? if ye dont believe me then try peeing into a toilet bowl filled with green toilet duck after a nite on the piss(beer).... as for me, i'll hold on until one of you finds a supplier that'll do a set of white dials with blue lighting and then hopefully posts it in here...[/colorost_uid7]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]um.... yellow and blue make green..........
blue's a primary colour.... so u can't add anything to get blue... but here's a thought.... what if u had a filter which blocks yellow light.... will u end up with blue?? =)[/colorost_uid0] |

[color=#000080ost_uid0]red blue and yellow and primary colours on paper.
[edit: thinking one thing, typing another...] green red and yellow are primary colours for light (and computers) RGB colour. and yes i think yellow and green make blue, no harm in trying...[/colorost_uid0]

Today i changed the colour of the illumination sleeves from green to red,they have made the needles a bright glowing red and the rest a lighter shade of red,i wish it was brighter but as previously mentioned there is still the green inside the cluster to contend with,overall im happy with it It looks similar to the older style Audi's :O hehe Catch ya's [/colorost_uid14]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]the green backing is actually on the back face of the dials, you if you changed the face you'd be fine...[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid1]So has anybody tried sanding off the green colour off the
back of the dials. How do you think blue would look through the green if I didn't go to the effort of sanding it off. Theo, Did you change the colour on the clock as well ?? or the dimmer etc under the wheel. I want that real blue look that will look sik with my silver dash Ta Mal[/colorost_uid1]

[color=#000000ost_uid1]Thanks mate,
The clock I could get by with as I want to move my turbo timer there but would like to do the other items on the dash like the dimmer. Feel for you mate the girls always look at the little negatives not simply respect the time, love and hard work you put into doing the rest of it. Later Mal[/colorost_uid1]

I just did this with a mate of mine the other day on his KF (91) tx3, so yeah...it can be done. We put blue sleeves on the globes (ended up putting two on, cause it still looked more white than blue - as it is it looks cyan...) A good sharp pocket knife and some very fine sand paper (and a dish to sit under the dials to catch the shavings) is enough. One sheet of wet 'n' dry should do the whole set. The pocket knife comes in handy when doing the delecate bits (ie around the red section and the little "holder" prong on the tacho). Be careful with the knife, though, as if you take too much off the light will shine through the scratches - nothing a bit of black electrical tape on the reverse side didn't fix... cheers, James |
