savvy, the v6 brakes are great brakes, with good pads and rotors they pull up very f*&kn quick, with only mild engine and suspennsion mods(eg exhaust, lowsprings, shocks) the v6 brakes are perficlty fine, theres no need to upgrade, but if you are lookin at increase the power by heaps(say to around 120kw+ atw) and really good suspension(full works) then you would be needing bigger brakes

These brakes are a ****LOAD better than the BG setups. Huge noticeable difference in light and heavy braking situations. This is still with nothing special pads.
Oh that's the other thing...I've been ringing around for street performance pads for these brakes and i haven't been able to find any. EBC don't make greens, and Ferodo don't make in the 2500 series and Bendix (i've been told) don't make ultimates for these calipers. Any suggestions?

NO ultimates ? bull**** I'm positive they make them.
look in a catalouge I know they use to make Metal kings plus ones. my mates Ba had bendix metals and last set he put in were original V6 pads from mazda like Japanese make ones they work the best he found. But stink like hell after big stops but dust FARK all. I mean he bought another set and they are are dated 96 so my guess old stock with large amoutns of aspestos in them. |

Give Race Brakes (vic) a call and get them to make some up for you.

Rupe, yeah that's what I'm thinking of doing tomorrow. I guess I'll have to have a chat to em about what comp would be best too.
Rodhog, nah no ultimates, and i don't want to go the metals...but yes, the make the metals. I'm not touching the advance series either. As i said, i'll give race brakes a call.

Funny they look just like the 2001+ MX5 brakes.... Interesting how they're 4 stud yet v6/GTR....
I think you need to explaint he parts list a little further. A.

That's cos they are the same brakes as the MX5. Lantis V6s, NB MX5s and Familia GTRs all used the same rotors and similar calipers.
Brakes can be any stub, just gotta have them drilled with whatever stud pattern you require. Ryan |

Considering that quite a few people on this forum and others have been claiming they're not the same, and when I've raised the question of using MX5 parts in the past (start of this thread actualyl) I've been shouted down that it wouldbe a useless upgrade and impossible I think there needs to be some claification.
BTW which NB brakes are teh GTR/v6 brakes the same as? NB1 or NB2? I'm well aware discs can be drilled to anny pattern however no mention of that was made above, so I was assuming a bolt-on swap.. A.

I think you will fidn the differences would being brakets etc
Mazda used the same rear caliper on 626 from 84 -92 but different brackets in 92 they uesd parts of them in the 323. |

Couldn't tell you what the MX5 brakes look like, never seen em...
Using MX5 parts on the BG would be useless due to the amount of money that would have to be put into the upgrade. If you're going to spend $1000 or more of machine work to put on a caliper, it may as well be something worth while. As I said earlier, IMO these calipers aren't worth spending the money on "making" them fit a BG. What I can tell you is the brakes that went on my car are definately the BA V6 brakes. The difference it made was not expected....however i'm also using a 15/16 master cyl.

Arron - not sure whether NB1 or NB2 brakes sorry. And no one has said that MX-5 brakes can't work, just that buying new or used MX-5 parts are too expensive for the application required.
Correct me if i'm wrong - but ROB has used V6 calipers plus V6/GTR/MX-5 DBA 4000 series rotors pre-drilled in 4x100 stud, not 5x114.3 stud? |

Aaron,
Do your own investigation on what is the same and what is similar thats the only way you will be happy with the answer. With nobody having the 2 calipers side by side to measure its all heresay. Even using logic can be flawed as mazda may swap things around to suit different rotors. According to Bendix the MX5 uses pad DB1282 against the Astina V6 DB1287. Then according to DBA the V6 rotor is 274mm dia against the SP turbo 270mm or the normal NB 255mm so I cant see them being the same at all. What we dont know is whether the caliper is the same and by use of different hub mounting and pads accomodates different sized rotors or if in fact the caliper is different but just looks similar. One question for Rob Do your pads overhang over the rotor I would expect a V6 caliper on V6 hubs using only a 270mm MX5 rotor instead of 274mm would extend outside the rotor by say 2-3mm or did you swap to MX5 pads(& did they fit) so they lined up OK.

Mal, I'm with you - and this week I'll have some more answers as the Lynx, the MX5 and my time are all free for some wheel up testing.

Mal - What you're fogetting is that the 4mm in rotor differnce is split 50/50 top and bottom. Also, if you look at majority of worn in rotors, there's 1.5 to 2mm of unused rotor on the outer edge. This was also the case with the original BA rotors.
So, to answer your question, my pads run perfectly to the edge as far as i can see so far.
