Heya peoples ...

Im in a situation where i dont know wtf i want =P

I need a car..

I can get a loan out for a car... up to 38 g

now..

Ive got my eyes set on a Nissan Maxima ... the 2004 shape one..

i had my eyes set on a Ford XR6 Turbo... but after rummeging around a XR6T forum... found that a few people have had problems with them.... and also more than a few have had problems with ford fixing problems..

Now..

I want a car that fits under the price tag..

Is 1997 +

Luxurious... and smooth to drive with some go in it..

and for some reason im not wanting another 4 cylinder unless i can be proven otherwise with one...

DONT WANT A WRX !! ! Everyone says get a WRX !! I dont want one =P

And that goes for a Taxi cab skyline.....

So what is there left... help me please people... im just a lost and confuse carless person =P hehehe

From someone who has spent too much money on cars, I say spend $15-20k on a bloody imported luxury turbo and save the rest for a house or investment. Argh, or join us poor folk with nothing to show for ourselves at the age of 29...

If you want a decent car....maybe try looking for a V6 Accord around that age you are looking for, there were a few sports edition ones with bodykits etc...leather seats...and being the Hondas they are, impecable cars. Like I said earlier my parents have the '98 Maxima Touring version and they passed up the opportunity to upgrade it to the 2001 model because it has been such a good car, plenty of go, very reliable. not one prob and they liked the shape/bodykit better than the mdoel after. My guess is the Maxima will have more go than the Accord, but even Maximas are still pretty plain inside.

<38g
1997+
luxury with go

my answer to that would be the toyota chaser jzx100
for around 35g
96-99
carbon fiber interior
a 1jzgte engine with turbo and vvti
straight 6
4 door
and not another common taxi

you could always go for a mkII chaser or a soarer...soarer a bit more common but they are luxruy, what are the is200 Lexus going for second hand cause if u can get one of them then drop the 2jz in them they really get moving and all leather interior and look very nice=D

falcons also handle like a boat (I drove a falcon for 2 years on my L's :P ) are heaps heavy and are quite literally as common as the taxi.

Falcons bad. Autho the GT with its boss 290 KW engine is a nice car if your into that kind of thing (they are very nice on the inside too). Just keep it on the straight and dont try to corner too hard in it and you will be fine.

My post is a paradox!

it's a 4, but maybe the last of the Preludes. just don't get an auto...as they can have gearbox problems that Honda Australia wouldn't cover even under warranty (and it was a US service bulletin too!). Actually, never mind lol

or maybe the last of the 929s sold here?

or... umm..lexus IS200? but dunno what they're going for these days

Braxta saw your post over at XR6T... The "Cutting out" issue your Dad talked about is probably based on the new article that teh Sydney Morning Herald did last year based on my car. ie I was interviewed etc etc... My 15 minutes of fame

The problem was fixed with a software update in January and the car has been faultless since. Well except for the diffs, but that's noise not failure.

Overall my particular XR6T has not been the best, but there's worse ones (usually helped by generous amounts of owner abuse) and better ones which are flawless. If you look around and make a smart buying choice you will be very happy. Get a dud and if you're patient with your dealer all will be fixed with no hassle. Only people who put on an attitude fail to get fixes.

However all that said I would sugguest pulling the head in and buying a nice $20K car that's good for commute and good on the juice and saving up a bit of cash to do the dreaded house buying crap. Going into the hock for $38K (as you say it's what the bank will give you) for a few years will block out a lot of saving opportunity. And yes I'm saying this as the guy with a $42K (new price) of XR6T lease sitting out the front, I don't regret the choice, but it does definately limit your abitlity to even think about home purchasement. Doign the 'expensive' car thing will probably delay the property thing by "length of loan + 1"......

A.

I would say go the S15, but that does not solve your 4 cylinder problem.

Maybe something like a GT4???

I have heard the IS200 is a bit on the gutless side, maybe I am thinking of the wrong car tho...

NO you are thinking right.....IS200s are gutless...basically very similar in shape etc as the SP20 protege...but with less power...i thought about one...but then realised what I would miss

With your criteria I'd probably say a BMw of some description. 323 or something like that, although I'm not sure what price they are.
