I have found a place that sells the blank keys with chips in them for $25.
So we will have to buy the switchblade key and buy a blank key with chip then transplant the chip and the contents of the fob remote into the new housing. Marc i can PM you my number and you can call me if you have any questions. |

Sound promising guys. Thanks to Marc and Phil for all the leg work on this one
Marc, perhaps you add the cost of the blank keys into the first post. It doesn't look like it will be too hard of a job after all

I would rather stay with the one design, makes things simpler to purchase And considering the others you can get, this one seems to be the sturdiest design...
So do you not use the OEM keyfob at all?

Post to anywhere in the US (via airmail) is $9.30aud, which brings the total (with the switchblade) to around $35usd

Hi
What I need to know is everyones key the same all the way thru the BJ's life? Is a BJI key the same as a BJII and BJII-J48? The reason I ask is that my key is different than what is shown in the guide as per first post. Im led to believe it has a tiny chip hidden in the rubber. I have heard the first model BJ's had a different key. Im not sure if all cars have the same immobiliser chip or not. Can you let me know if your keys/remote are the same or different thanks. This is my key is everyone elses the same? I have a BJ II J-48 Will make it a bit easier for us sourcing the parts. Thanks Philthy |

Some of them aren't too bad.
This ones my favourite. BMW Films Presents : The Hire - Star Its a good way to kill a few min on youtube They were an internet only free movie download a few years ago. There was a very limited free DVD release and I managed to get 2 copies of it |

Mine is the same as yours Phil.
At least all the BJ-II's are the same. Any BJ-I's out there that can confirm or deny their key is the same?

Slightly offtopic, but for interests sake, here's a variation of the factory fob that does have the 3rd button, but not the big red panic button:

For a bit of clarity, the BJ II SP20s all had immobiliser chips, but pretty much none of the other 323s did. When the BJ II J48s came out, they dropped the crappy 1.6L engine and just had the 1.8 and the SP20 2L, both had built in immobilisers in the key.....AFAIK, none of the sedans had the boot button shown above....you had to either use the key or the manual lever in the boot. Not sure about the ones fitted with the alarm though.

The first 323 BJ's 98-99 had a different type of immobilizer to the later ones.
The changed them to comply with new laws introduced in 2000. The later model BJ's have a very complex security system that makes key duplication impossible. The only way it is possible to add new keys into the car is if you have both sets of keys and a new unused key with chip. With out 2 sets you will have to go to mazda and have it done by them. So for those of us with both keys still fully working we can do this. And the BA uses a very similar key except for an extra groove. So if a BJ key fits into a BA lock with no issues then should work for BA owners. |
