Wanted to find out what the difference in performance is between the V6 and the 4cyl BA astina and if there is any handling differences in the hatch and hardtop.

0 - 100 figures for both would be nice... and 1/4 mile figures good too.. and any other figures u can throw in there.

Want to know this cause whenever i tell someone that i have a 2ltr V6. They automatically think.. WOW! that thing must go hard... and although it does kinda go hard. i get the feeling it's not much quicker than the 4 cyl and other 4 cyl cars out on the market.[/colorost_uid9]

Umm, Saturdays Daily Tele had a brief description of the BA Astina (you know how they review 2nd hand cars??) I sent a copy to rupe (very low resolution), but i think the 2L had some better suspension items and the like, and obviously more power. Oh, Dan, I'll get that better scan to you soon (assuming I haven't accidentally binned it).[/colorost_uid0]

i'd say that the hatch might have a slight (i'm talking fractions of a second here) straightline performance edge, as it weighs 20kg more from the factory. But the Hardtop might have a slight cornering edge as it's stiffer in the back as it has bracing across the rear towers (being a sedan).

But in real terms, they're not going to be significantly different as they both have the same suspension setup.

But when comparing the V6 and 1.8, the V6 will handle better and go faster. It's lower (1 inch) and stiffer (front strut tower brace), and had more power and torque.[/colorost_uid0]

Its also Heavier isn't it. You also have more drivetrain loss
with the auto gearbox. Think they would be very close as
the V6 has more grunt but the 4cyl is nippier off the mark.
Think the V6 would be say half a second quicker over 1/4.
Will see if I can find any figures to confirm or not.

Ah good point - i forgot the V6 is heavier. and because the extra weight is mostly in the nose, that's gonna affect performance.

i think the 1.8 did 0-100 in about 9.6 and the V6 was about a second quicker...[/colorost_uid0]

I have driven my friends 1.8 hardtop... but i didn't want to push it cause she would have killed me.. but driving that was what made my decission to by an astina... it handled really nicely.. i noticed when i found the V6 hardtop.. the front was alot heavier.. and sometimes it feels as if the engine is too small for the extra weight... but i really really like the handling of the V6.

Have any of the non turbo (turbo guys can give me their times too) done a 1/4 mile time? stock or mods.[/colorost_uid0]

a few people's times here

but i bought the 1.8 instead of the V6 as the extra performance wasnt worth the extra money (this was 3 years ago mind you) and i figured if i even wanted to go faster, the turbo was a relatively easy drop-in

but it would have been cool to drop the 2.5 KLZE in the 2.0 tho...[/colorost_uid0]
