There's a g-series gearbox on fl.com for $500 in brisbane here. Shouldn't cost that much to courier it down...

you can find 2.2L 5 speeds from gD models - better off with Gd1022 chassis- that's 90 model onward or 89 novemeber build onward
they are normall quite cheap $200 upward.

5th gear swap . I've never doen it but I can tell it's PISS ANT EASY.

you only really need a rattle gun for the two main nuts holding the onto the shafts and you can do it in the car too.

As said its been done before.

The 626 gears can be ordered from Mazda, and are about 300ish for both. The part numbers are floating around here somewhere.

As i said, it can be done in the car if you're really keen, but you'll need an impact wrench to remove the 32mm and 36m nuts. 5th is easy as it's outside the main casing and just covered by the black pressed cover on the end of the box.

Apparently there was a diesel 323 in Europe that had an even taller 5th ratio, but i've never been able to find the part numbers or get more info.

It's not worth trying Rupe as I know sort of in my mind have and idea and it would be so tall a Bp would not pull it. You would be working the car too hard so economy would be gone.
626 has a .680 I think that's the one.
i can only really think of a few mazda motors made to pull that gear from 2000rpm and excellerate

final but for it was 4.105

might not be as bad with the 4.388 diff but

I think the torque of a BP-T would shatter it if it was much lower, anyway. They're too small a gear, and of course there's no way you'd want a straight cut 5th if you drive any distance. Even i'm not that hardcore

But yeah, the lower ratio i was talking about was a .68 from a euro BG chassis, apparently. Didn't know it was the same as one of the 626 5ths.

I'm more interested in it as with the solid engine mounts i get a more noticeable vibration at around 100-110, and the 626 5th will hopefully just drop it that few hundred rpms to be a little nicer.

B series and like most 323's get 2nd hand hand me down Mazda G series car parts. IT's why for a bit of time it was all G series box's
Then mazda went skimp.

BP-T - torque not enough.
I've been in heaps and all big boost to make that torque
Can't compare to a F2 -or F2T especially - At the moment many a owner is needing 5th gear because they have worn the dog teeth on slector hub ring or gear itself even.

They are small but it's a sore point but you don't need stragiht cut just some newer desgined gears , still helical cut won't be that noisey.

But yeah vibration all rotating parts have a two zones to get through in terms of blalnce in vibration - regardless of how perfect it is.

Most occur from 2800rpm to 3200rpm - 3000rpm said to be the main area.
It's why alot of cars gearbox's you will note have ratios set just below this. for 110km/h

But also when it gets upto 30,000rpm it's another threashold the rotating shaft etc has to break through.
It's all to do with harmoics and balancing.
I keep getting reminded about Gas turbines etc.
Dam Work.

If it's like a BJ, it's on the back of the engine (left hand side of car) about 12" infront of the throttle body on a copper coolant pipe, about 6" down from the top of the valve cover.

Gav.

should go to the temp sensor on the thermostat housing.

just below and to the side of the distributor. Follow the upper coolant hose from the radiator to the engine

The gold thing is an earth point, the black plug behind it looks like the ECU temp sensor. There should be another in that area from memory.
