Won't your old G series gearbox bolt straight up to the GTX bellhousing?

There is no point to fitting them even if they do fit (never done it but I'm pretty sure they do), they are the same phisical size.

As chicaboo said, you use your original gearbox.

One of the most bizzar things is that the late '96 1.8 Astina has V6 drive shafts and an 'F' series (read fragile) gearbox.

Go figure

You may find the info on the little sticker fixed to the inside of your windscreen. You know the one, it changes colour every year.

The V6 gearbox is basicly the same as the 4 cyl box except that the bell housing casing is designed to fit the V6.
The right CVs are the ones that are in there (or identical Mazda/Ford ones). It's a fact of owning a FWD that the CVs will wear. Your mechanic will send the shafts to a CV rebuilder who has the parts to fix them.
