getting ready for drag racing

well today i started to get my car ready for drag racing next weekend.

i basically went through the car and took out the stuff which i could according to the Sport FWD class under ANDRA regulations (says most interior has to remain).

taking into account the weight saving from changing the exhaust, i have made my car 68.2kg lighter....and that's with the door speakers and amp still in the car!!! that'll probably be another 10kg i would think.

now according to my rego papers, the TARE of the sp20 manual is 1184kg. my hope was to get that down to 1100kg, so with the sound stuff out i still have just under 4kg to go....

i'm going over everything to see what i can take out. hell i even took off my front bumper bar so i could take off the support brackets for the fog lights (because i had already taken the fog lights off) and the plastic crap behind the bumper bar hehehehehe.

so does can anyone think of other strange stuff to take out of the car that would be ok according to the ANDRA regulations?

now if you're wondering why i'm trying my hardest to stick to ANDRA regs is because of the fast fours jamboree.....depending on the times i run next weekend i might enter ????

all of the back seats are gone.

you can remove anything you like for racing, but to get into the sport fwd class a real lot of stuff has to remain in the car.

check out http://www.jamboree.com.au/SYDJAM/pdfs/SPORT_FWD.pdf for the rules.

hell i've probably taken out too much stuff, but i guess i'll chat to the officials next weekend

I assume you've already gotten rid of:
spare tyre
jack
toolkit etc.

How about:-
glovebox
wiper blades
empty wiper reservoirs
wheel centre caps
number plate surrounds

Maybe borrow two space saver tyres from somewhere to replace the back wheels??

that stuff yep.

glove box - will do that.

wiper blades have to remain.

empty wiper reservoir, wheel caps and number plate surrounds - good idea.

the problem with the ANDRA rules is they are so vague...

it says : "Complete Interior, including dashboard, door panels, headliner etc mandatory. Rear seat may be removed. Aftermarket seats permitted, but must be fully upholstered. All factory controls must be retained and operative; ie lights, signals, horn, windows and wipers"

so i sort of have to be a little sneeky with taking stuff out of the car....

i was also thinking the side skirts - they weigh a fair bit.

the main thing about the jamboree drag racing is consistancy. if you go under your dial in, you loose.

i read about a vw beetle in america that was winning everything.....it was stock, automatic and did a 20second 1/4 mile. it ran within 0.05seconds of it's dial in every single time. it was close to impossible to beat

i think the cut off for this year will be (again) 15.99seconds. that's what the sydney jamboree web site had, so the brisbane one would prob be the same.

$600 for the winner of the sport fwd class sounds good to me

yeah rear spoiler - didnt think of that.

and are you saying something about my weight??? hehehehe

i went on a few 1/4 mile calculator sites, and taking the 84kg out of the car (goal weight reduction), that's like adding 10whp!

if you want to improve the launches, make the rear of your car stiffer to help lessen weight transfer

go to a suspension place and get some nolathane spring tensioners (that slip over a top coil and a bottom coil) whih will keep the rears rock hard

if only there was a BP servo right out the front of willowbank!

next time i will do it with a limited tank of fuel - will use the petrol container

with the suspension, i wont do anything this time, but i will pump up the rear tyres to about 46psi and drop down the fronts to 15psi

the door mirrors have to remain i think, but i'm going to fold them back. the headrests will be going yup. i'm even going to shift the passenger front seat as forward as posible. and yep - sideskirts are going to come off on wednesday (RDO)

dont have car mats.

i'm sure i'll easily pass my goal of reducing the weight by 84kg...just that how it's reducing in small, or very very small steps

will they still hold the mirrors in place w/o the motor?

but that's another idea - remove the rear windscreen wiper motor
