Unhappy Engine problem on BA engine

I had my Astina's 1.8 engine overhauled last December. It was fitted with high performance pistons and the head was done too by an enginering company. The engine have done 10000 km since but i have a problem. It is using some oil. The car don't smoke and there is no leaks but oil seems to disappear. I tried different kind of oils and at the moment i am using Castrol Synthetic high performance oil. Can anyone give some advise on what is happening. Compression tests shows normal compression.

The exhaust is dry and a grayish colour. it uses about one can of oil for every 500 km. Another thing i found is the faster i go, that is the higher the revs, the more oil it uses. As a test i reved up the engine while parked and at 6000 revs there is no smoke at all unless you pump the gas pedal, then a puff of dark gray smoke come out of the exhaust. Is it possible that i am using the wrong oil? Maybe it takes a while to run in? Like i said everything in the engine is brand new.

sounds like a sleeve is buggered. engine wasn't run in properly in 1st 50km i'd say.

1 can per 500km - how much is 1 can in ml?

i used to run thin 10w-30 and burnt around 2500ml per 5000km... switched to thicker 25w-50 and now burn 1000ml per 5000km. my engine has done 206,000km in bottom end, head was rebuilt + high flowed at 106,000.

what oil are you using?

ryan

p.s. check warrenty info, if still valid? then take back asap.

i am using synthetic castrol sport 10w50 oil. This does not make any sence to me.. if a sleeve was buggered it should show on a compression test surely. The garage said i must give it some more time to settle but this is the first car i had that take that long to run in.

The engine should be pretty much run in by 1000kms, but won't be at it's best until 10,000..

Either way, it shouldn't be using that much oil. Sure it doesn't blow any oil on startup?

Thats too much oil use if its not dropping any from seals/gaskets
Buy some degreaser and give the engine a really good clean (may need 4-5 cans) then drive it as you normally would, check engine for any signs of leaks, and after you top it up take it back to the shop and ask them one question
If its not leaking from any seals/gaskets or from the oil filter and using ?l of oil per ?km
Then tell me why it I shouldnt believe its being burnt out (typically valve stem seals or piston rings)

Then see what they say
If they tell you its still being run in....
Ask them to use their phone and ring all the mechanics in the neighbourhood
Ask them if by 10000km a car should be run in......
Then when they all tell you OMG yessssss
Hang up the phone and ask your engine builder the original question once again
