BA rear mount

had a search around but couldn't find anything on this,

is it possible to change the rear engine mount without removing the engine, intake or driveshaft?

if so how? i can barely feel 2 of the bolts let alone get a spanner to them!

its barely possible even WITH the driveshaft off.

even once u have adequate access, you won't be able to get a socket onto 2 of the 3 bolts holding it down. The firewall comes over them with about 3-5mm gap. I couldn't even get a ring spanner over them.

You may want to accessing them from the back, follow the car's underbody up and u can see the 2 rear bolts through the gap. Its kinda hard to explain but you would need a 45deg bend in a spanner to get them.

When I had a service center change mine they game back grumbling that they had to bend a spanner to do it.

My rear mount's rubber had split and so recently I gave up on trying to get the mount off to replace it, and just filled the mount with Sikaflex ( i think it was Sikaflex 255 Extra, which has a durometer hardness rating of 55 )

it feels strong now but was a pain even to fill it

About $170 from memory. 5 hours of dicking around is worth that cost!

that sounds amazingly reasonable for mazda, they obviously didnt realise how difficult it was

it all depends on when i pull the engine, i'm looking at swapping to a lower km one that i can rebuild and drop in

when i had the gearbox out of mine the other week i replaced that mount in mine had to drop sub frame down on ground at home with box out took bout 2 hours you undo the 3 17mm nuts from top using socket uni joint and extensions you need a few entensions as you put them down between the inlet manifold and fire wall
